I find it hard to see us taking another center. We have what? 6 in the pipeline with top9 written all over them?

Suzuki, dach, Monahan, evans, kidney, Roy, are all top 9 centres. Plus you have several other prospects that could hit. Our best bet is to take the best winger/D available or I guess take another C ?
You go Center 24/7 if he's the BPA.

How does there appear to be a lack of support for drafting Michkov?

After the draft lottery Hughes merely said at this point Michkov would lose a tie breaker, but they still have to do a deep dive into the Russian factor and a deep dive into how the candidates actually stack up against each other.

He didn't say how many candidates there are, but he said now that they know where they're picking they know who to focus on, and that that list is certainly less than 10. And he said now that they know they're picking 5th, they'll do the serious deep dive into Michkov. So he's clearly on that list of players they could pick - at least if Hughes's comments can be taken at face value and he wasn't making those comments to deceive teams that potentially would want to trade up or down for the 5th pick so as to not show his hand.

Have we seen anything around the team other than doubt? They are at the information collecting stage and that may change. As of right now, it doesn't look definitive at all they'd take Michkov at 5. I'm hoping that changes.

They definitely could use another center. Monahan is gone. Evans is a 4c, Roy isn't a C.

A lot of guys projected at C don't always make it there, either. There's worlds where Fantilli, Smith and Dvorsky play Qing.

Do you see any bust potential with Fantilli? Is it more or less than with Carlsson?
I absolutely cannot see it. Why? Not racking points right now is mostly a testament to how that Team Canada isn't playing as a team. More than it is for him. But the guy is big, fast, he knows where to position himself....I just don't see him failing.

Fantilli is clearly gonna step right in next season and be decent right away.

Looks NHL-ready out there for sure.

So we just expect them to go with the flow and pass because other did so?

It seems pretty obvious to me if the Habs pass it's because they have their own set of unresolved issues with the pick they can't get over with.

If a bunch of other teams high in the draft pass, we know why. There's obviously a threshold. Kuznetsov should not have lasted as long as he did in his draft on talent alone.

Yurov last year is another example of someone thought to go top 10 and went in the 20s.

Monahan is a UFA and would be a mistake to bring back

Evans is more of a 4th line center

Kidney is far from making the NHL

Roy is a winger

Beck should become a good 3rd line center

you pick BPA all the time its easy to move centers to the wing Dach played with Suzuki and Caufield
My bad on Roy, and for the right price, monahan should most definitely come back if he’s healed. I understand he’s anti tank but you need to surround young guys with skilled NHL players in order for them to grow.

he hasnt been "healed" in years i do like the player but we got him because it gaved us a 1st round pick thats it hes hips are done

I would love to be wrong on this, but I don't think Benson is someone we want, but he would be a very good fit. I get some Gaudreau vibes from him, and he's such an aggressive forechecker. I don't think there's a lot of risk there but he definitely has 1st line potential. I'd say at worst he becomes a 2nd liner

His hips were fine this year, apparently, it was something else.

I wouldn't mind bringing him back on the cheap.
hes first injury was the broken foot ( was suppose to be back after 3 weeks ) but didnt he re-injure hes hips while in rehab/training ? think thats what i remember reading but can be wrong i know there was a 2nd injury while in rehab

Man, BPA is very subjective and it simply means that you focus on skills and skills only. This term is annoying. There is no clear or consensus BPA at 5, like there is at 1 for Bedard.

If you believe reinbacher is BPA at 5. Then its irrelevant that there is 15 RDs in next year top ten and its irrelevant if you have Makar, Fox and Seider as your RD all signed on 8yr deal.

BPA means picking the highest upside player disregard of the rest and its very f***ing subjective.

Remember that if Michkov falls to 5, there's a reason. The guy is supposedly the best thing ever so if 4 other teams pass on him, you need to ask yourself why.
There is also a reason why SKA St.Petersburg could try to retain him. Looking at the general culture of some supposedly great hockey minds, I thnik they should focus their expertise on hockey.

What if the Nords didn't pick Lindros knowing he was not going to play with them?

Didn't he injure his hip while doing rehab for his foot this year? Or was it another body part...?

Either way, it's not really practical to sign a guy who reached the point where he can't get through rehab without sustaining new injury.

No, it was something else AFAIK.

Bringing him back on a one-year prove-me deal has no backlash IMO.

We could sell him at the TDL if he stays healthy...

As a plan C in late July maybe, not something I would go out of my way to make happen tho.
