I don’t remember CC’s production being impacted by Monahan’s absence tbh.
He and Szuuki went off their pace from the start of the year. Now that we hear Cole's injured shoulder occurred earlier in the year, that could have been the culprit...

At any rate, always good to have a good second offensive line.

Outside of Brian Burke trading up so he could draft both Sedin twins, does anyone know when a team in the top 5 moved up or down?

Why does anyone think that in such a deep draft year that any team in the top 5 will move their pick? They won’t. It’s that simple. It seldom never happens and this is not the year to be moving down the draft if you’re in the top 5.

- MAF / Horton pick trade in 2003 (Fla gave up
1OA + 3rd rounder for 3OA + Mikhaïl Samuelson + 2nd rounder)

And that was the deepest draft in the history of the NHL!

What is more likely. Habs trading up from #5 or trading up from Fla pick? Personally I love to see the Habs move Florida’s pick to get into the top 12. Either way it will be pricey.
Personally i would love to trade up to #3 for Carlsson but i know it wont happen

Hopefully we can move up with Floridas pick we need a mid round 1st gonna be alot of good options left

You have one GM in Brian Burke who is responsible for the only two top 5 moves in 20+ years. It’s anomalous. It almost never happens in todays NHL with the draft being so important. You need that cheap NHL talent in a cap system.

I'd say it's a likely assumption that if one of Carlsson, Fantilli or Smith are on the board at 5 that they will be selected by the Habs.

Michkov remains the wildcard in that if he is there at 5, there still appears to be a lack of support that the Habs would actually take that risk.

I think it's down to 3 other names than the 4 above. Ryan Leonard, Dalibor Dvorsky or David Reinbacher.

I know some people will say Zach Benson, but I just don't see it.

If anyone can bring it back, it's aggressive Kent Hughes!

This is also EXACTLY how I see that. Though I WOULD go Benson...I doubt we do that.

Now...let's start a campaign about how bad Fantilli is at the Worlds...so that he falls at 5....lol

Do you see any bust potential with Fantilli? Is it more or less than with Carlsson?

I think you could argue he has better hockey sense and skill than those 3 players. I think when you compare Benson to Leonard, he's going to create so much more than him all over the ice... Benson will be the guy on his line, while Leonard will end up being the compliment.

How does there appear to be a lack of support for drafting Michkov?

After the draft lottery Hughes merely said at this point Michkov would lose a tie breaker, but they still have to do a deep dive into the Russian factor and a deep dive into how the candidates actually stack up against each other.

He didn't say how many candidates there are, but he said now that they know where they're picking they know who to focus on, and that that list is certainly less than 10. And he said now that they know they're picking 5th, they'll do the serious deep dive into Michkov. So he's clearly on that list of players they could pick - at least if Hughes's comments can be taken at face value and he wasn't making those comments to deceive teams that potentially would want to trade up or down for the 5th pick so as to not show his hand.

I find it hard to see us taking another center. We have what? 6 in the pipeline with top9 written all over them?

Suzuki, dach, Monahan, evans, kidney, Roy, are all top 9 centres. Plus you have several other prospects that could hit. Our best bet is to take the best winger/D available or I guess take another C ?

Monahan is a UFA and would be a mistake to bring back

Evans is more of a 4th line center

Kidney is far from making the NHL

Roy is a winger

Beck should become a good 3rd line center

you pick BPA all the time its easy to move centers to the wing Dach played with Suzuki and Caufield

Monahan, Evans and Kidney are not factors that are taken into consideration whatsoever. Both Dach and Suzuki can play wing. Even knowing they could get Dach, they had Cooley and Wright on their list last year. You take the C if Smith or Carlsson are available.
