Outsider here so hopefully not butting in, but I definitely don't think there's any chance Columbus even thinks about Michkov. I don't think they're confident they can bring him over and/or make him happy. For them it's probably Carlsson or Smith IMO.

I think the Sharks might be a different story. I think a California team that can afford to wait for him like the Sharks can is a perfect fit for him. However, if Columbus takes Smith SJ might go for the center in Carlsson, and under that scenario it's you guys that have the real decision to make.

Personally, if I'm Montreal I take Michkov if he's available. I'm confident in my org's history with Russian players, I'm confident that my city is a hell of a lot more European than a random America city, and I'm confident that by the time he comes over my team will be in need of a potential star player on an ELC...and he'd be by far the BPA at that spot. I'd WAY, WAY rather wait for Michkov than overdraft a Reinbacher just because he fits a need in your organization.
I agree with the point I bolded above.

If we go with Reinbecher, I would be very underwhelmed. He could be amazing for all I know, I'm just tired of drafting D or 1B tier offensive talent. The last 100 point player here was at least 20 years ago (hell, even 30). We consistently don't have any players in the top of league scoring and, especially in the Carey Price era, we consistently valued collective team defense. I want excitement, explosiveness, and gamebreaking ability from our high picks. Michkov is (reportedly) all of those.

There is real risk with picking him but I would 100% take it if I were KH.

The last 100 points player we had was Naslund in 85-86 that was 37 years ago. I mean i'm in the middle of my 40ies and i was 9 when it happened. It was like in another life so many things happened since then. Since this rare event in 86 we only had 5 players reaching 90 points. Here's the list :

Turgeon in 96 with 96 points
Damphousse 3 times in 96, 94 and 93 with 94, 91 and 97 points respectively
Muller in 93 with 94 points
Richer in 90 with 91 points
Bobby Smith in 88 with 93 points

So it has been 27 years without a 90 points scorer. Even worse since that least rare but still quite rare event in 96 we only had 3 players reaching 80 points.

Kovalev in 2008 with 84 points.
Recchi in 97 with 80 points
Damphousse in 97 with 81 points.

So there has been only one 80+ points players since 97 so 26 years with only one player reaching 80 points. That's quite sad if not pathetic,

I agree 100%! Top 5 should be a dynamic pick.
Every time I mention this some half wit says “relax we’ll get someone okay”…it’s hard to believe that we haven’t had a slam dunk draft since 1984!!! In 2005 we picked Price at 5 however, no game changing Goalies out there this year. It would be nice to pick Michkov but I’m sure San Jose has educated themselves as to who’s available 1 thru 5.
So again this year we have hope someone falls to us & it’s not gonna be the first two and probably not the big Swed? So I’ll relax cuz Smith is okay, lol.
Cheers

I feel like you dont often see the Russians opting to go for the Southern states. They seem way more drawn to the east coast teams, and MTL and NY in particular.

Now go back and take a look where those 90+ pts players ranked league wide. Iirc in 85-86 Naslund finished with 110pts 8/9OA Stastny at 6OA had 125pts and Kovalev just missed top-10 in 07-08 - last time a Habs player has finished top-25 in scoring, not Richer’s 50G seasons in 88 & 90, nor any of the 90+ pts seasons in 1990s….

BTW, before Naslund’s 110pts season in 86, no Habs player hit top-25 in scoring since Lafleur in 79-80.

This isn’t something new for this org, 2-players have had top-25 scoring seasons over past 43-years…. spanning 7-GMs we’re on GM#8 now..

Loose lips sink ships. Hughes should be looking for the babbling idiot who is leaking out privileged info (assuming this actually happened).

Or more likely, that entire article was clickbait and there's no source.

Montreal fans strive for drama and rumours, anyone can make anything up and tie it to the habs (or Leafs) and it'll generate clicks.

It's amazing what a difference 1 spot in the tank makes.

While we debate Michkov, Carlsson, and Smith, there's a poll in the Coyotes forum debating Dvorsky vs. Leonard.

Your guy Davidson was pretty adamant that CBJ is picking a center. Since Michkov plays wing, he’s not in the conversation. There’s really nothing to think about.

I usually don’t give credence to statements by team executives so early ahead of the draft but with Columbus having a high pick and with 4 out of the 5 currently ranked prospects being centers, it’s not a great leap of a statement to make.

Getting Smith would f***ing suck compared to the others. We were so f***ing close. Our AHLers and f***ing Montembeault and management ruined our season.

Not a Columbus fan, though (mostly regretfully) I have cheered for an Ohio-based NFL franchise since the 80's.

Yeah if it's not Smith or Carlsson for CBJ I'll be shocked (unless Fanta falls to #3 which I don't expect.)

I'm secretly hoping Carlsson slip. I know it's impossible but doesn'T hurt dreaming i guess

1. God
2. Fentanyl
3. Smith
4. The guy who was not there
5. Carlsson
Hope is not a plan.

What’s done is done, Habs management did not care about trying to finish lower in the standings and neither do I. They’ll get what they deserve.

Just a note, because Michkov is a Dec. 9th birth, he'll turn 22 on Dec. 9th of the first season he comes over here after his 3 year KHL contract.

So I would really consider that his 22 year old season. Not that this matters for whether we draft him or not.

Hope is not a plan.

Unless they trade to move up!

If Habs draft Michkov, they better surround him and Caufield with bigger bodies.
