...Because teams use driving distance as a metric to take decision @ the draft table...

100% they do, are you serious?

2 hours domestic flight vs 12hours+ with lay over, 1 way+ 12 hours with layover for the return flight.

If Carlsson is not believed to crack the team next year, going with a local player who's fairly close in perceived value would make a whole lot sense for many reasons.

Well good luck getting anything close to Carlsson in the coming years
Close to him in what way? Michkov is better so don't need any luck, managed to do it in year 1. I understand picking Carlsson over Michkov because of off-ice reasons though but I'm not sure why you're willing to throw away all our assets just to go from Michkov to Carlsson.

Genuinely puzzling.

I just don't believe Michkov will drop, he would have been 1OV in 10 of the last 13th drafts. He will be long gone by 5, hence I'm preparing myself for Smith, who is a gem in his own. I watched his highlights and I'm very impressed, I can't wait for Hugo to draft him.

Well given Columbus has said they will take a center at 3, for him to get to 5, only requires Anaheim (who everyone is saying will take Fantilli) and San Jose to pass on him... so most probably it comes down to SJ at 4.

I might have missed something but what do you see in Michkov that you think he could be better in the NHL?
Btw why do you think almost every NHL team is going out of their way to draft a top class Centerman when they can?

Did you guys knew that out of all the teams in the NHL (excluding Seattle), we are the franchise with the least amount of players with a PPG season since 2000?

We have Alex Kovalev in 2008, that's it.

Every other team has at least two.

Plus, we haven't had a true superstar forward since Guy Lafleur. That's 43 years ago that he had his last great 100+ pts season. Sure, we got Naslund, Turgeon, Damphousse, Richer, etc. But no true consistent star at forward for over 4 decades!

That's why MICHKOV is absolutely crucial. This franchise has been desertic at forward. The thirst for it is a matter of life or death. We need this more than anything, and Michkov is our last chance to get one for the next few years.
I understand you feel michkov could be a 100point player consistently, but next season we will have Plugs, overpaid vets, no goalie, rookies coming of injuries, sophomores seasons and maybe a couple more rookies. Should be another good chance to get a top end player!

Our entire lineup will be more seasoned. No reason we'd do worst than this year.

If you mean that

Gallagher ( injury prone )
Armia ( injury prone )
Edmunson ( injury prone )
Savard ( injury prone )
Allen ( injury prone )
Hoffman ( just prone )
Guhle ( injury prone )
Slafkovsky ( injury prone, rookie )
Caufield ( injury prone , major surgery )
Xhekaj ( major surgery )
Dach ( injury prone, major surgery, concussions )
Montembault ( Swiss cheese )
Barron ( rookie )

Are all going to magically have career years than yes, we should have a top 15 pick.

I can't understand a world where Bedard Fant Smith and Carsson are taken in the first 4 picks and we let go Michkov due to stupid reasons.

We just speculate but we know this org better than they know about themselves.

''Pick the guy we need not the BPA''
''Pick the guy with size and karakter over attributes like skills''
'' Make them play at 18 to sell ticket and scrap their careers''

I just can't see any dumb org to be dumb enough to pass over him after those 4 . But again our scouts are dumb as a brick.

Gun to my head and I was forced to take the best player at each slot regardless of geopolitical concerns here are my top 4 as the rest of the pack is in a lower tier imo.

1. Bedard
2. Carlsson
3. Michkov
4. Fantilli

Agreed. I'd be shocked if we're picking in the Top 5 of the next draft. The only reason we're picking in the Top 5 of this draft is because wow the crazy amount of injuries. I'm assuming (hoping) we will have less injuries, plus another year of maturity for the youngsters.

Agreed, if Dach, Slaf, Guhle, Xhekaj, Barron and Harris take another step and we remain relatively healthy this is a bubble team. It is unlikely that all of these things occur and we probably end up selecting in the 10-13 range......with a remote chance at Celebrini or Eiserman.

That's exactly what I was thinking....10-14 range for the next draft. There will be some really bad teams next season.

This team could potentially develop a Carolina level dcorps in short order if enough of them develop. We have so many good ones and we only need a few to hit. I think Carlsson is the perfect forward from this draft (other than Bedard) to add to the mix to point the compass towards a large contention window in a few years.

Wow, we’re gonna have a lot of disappointed people here draft day.

I understand it…I would love to have a draft where our top 10 pick is a “no doubter”? It’s been terribly disappointing for us to see so many teams hit gold picking at #3 like Draisaitl, Heiskanen, Toews, PLD or even at #5 Pettersson, Sanderson, Hanifin???

We have had only 2 successful (top 10) picks Sergachev #9 & Price #5 in decades? And even then our pick was mishandled by bergy the clown car when he moved Sergachev with a second for Drouin so Price is the only pick that’s paid dividends? top 10 picks should, at least, be in your lineup for 8-10 years even if they’re a 4th line or 3rd pairing d?

its so unfortunate that we have #5 and people are thinking Dvorsky or Reinbacher as “okay we‘ll settle for these guys”? I get it, it’s a gamble, a crapshoot, Dvorsky or Reinbacher may turn out solid 8-10 year players but it would be nice to have a top 5 that’s a slam dunk pick. BTW I like Smith and Michkov however I have a feeling our management will pass on the Russian if available and some other team will be shouting “we have the steal of the draft“ & “we can’t believe he fell to us” lol.
We could really use a repeat of our 1984 draft!!! We’ve earned it.

sorry, I guess I’m just a punch drunk Habs fan where drafting is concerned.
Relax, Timmins long gone. We'll get good player

Top 5 unlikely but if you look at the East and specifically the Atlantic. I'd say only Philly we are unequivocally ahead of.

Buffalo has their goalie now. Ottawa another year of growth and full Chychrun year. We could surpass Detroit and the changes to Tampa Boston and Toronto will be big but their cores should keep them ahead of us.

For all we know, Anaheim might be picking Michkov, Columbus might pick Dvorsky and San Jose Fantilli or Carlsson.

We just don't know and their respective lists might be very different, except they all put Bedard 1st, but after that it's anybody's guess.
Agree.

Habs won't pick Michkov. Leroux said so. Yeah Leroux also think Fantilli is slipping to 5 so thats it.
