I mean shit can the goalies. How many games did Gillies get run out there when sucking? Daws got like four of the next five after sucking in Boston, Hammond shouldn’t have even gotten any more games after that steaming pile of shit over the weekend. Bring in EBUGS, college guys, play without a goalie, I don’t give a f*** but if these guys don’t want to compete they shouldn’t get NHL games.
Are you saying the skaters aren't competing? Or that the goalies aren't competing?

We did dominate this game through 2 periods.

I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s been all season. Everyone we put in is worse than the last guy except for a couple competent games from Daws. Ruff should go for a number of reasons but I really don’t care who the coach was this year, there was no way out of the basement with this shit.

It's the opposite of competition. Instead of them challenging each other to be better goalies they are challenging each other to see who is worse

Two game sample size, but he's been worse than Gillies.

Gillies did NOT look THIS BAD in his first 2 starts here. Gillies has looked this bad in his last 3 starts here, but not his first two starts.

While we know Daws is guaranteed to be in on Saturday afternoon (barring injury or illness), I think we're definitely seeing Gillies as the dressed backup on the bench for that game.

I full expect Gillies to play a game before Hammond plays another.

He's been WORSE THAN SCHMID who averaged allowing over 2 expected a game

Honestly there just doesn't look to be a lot of pride. They are going through the motions to finish the season. In a way I can't blame them considering every time they try to be fired up, one or more players gets hurt. But it does seem to be indicative of a systemic issue that has plagued this team for years. They get deflated too easy. They are so easy to throw off their games and once they feel out of it, they kinda become indifferent. It's pretty evident in a game like this. It's why Zetterlund and Greer are standing out. Because most of the vets, that have known nothing but losing and no consequence to their loser mentality habits, are going through the motions waiting for the season to end.

We've seen what a motivated Devils team can be. They aren't this bad. Goaltending would sink them either way, but at least they wouldn't look on par with, or even inferior to, the Canadians...
And for sure the abysmal goaltending triggered it tonight. We got down so quick and so decisively based on just crappy goalie play. And then you’re expending so much energy playing catch up, wearing yourselves out . . . and if you do finally pull within one, after an immense effort, bang, bang, bang two or three more fast soft opposition goals put you even deeper in the hole again. It’s hard to have a lot of fight left when that pattern, that cycle repeats itself two or even three times in a single game.

We COULD have had him when we hired Ruff.

I don't remember hearing anything that would indicate we even spoke with him or reached out at all, as was confirmed with Gallant, Laviolette and Gronborg.

He was the guy I wanted then. If we get him now then it would've ended up working out in our favor since he never had any chance with last years development year or would he have had a chance this year with this goaltending. If it's not going to be Bruce (it almost certainly won't be) then give me Gronborg

The goalies, Hammond and Gillies don’t give a shit because they know they’re dead men walking on a shit team, Daws is waving the white flag and biding his time till he gets sent down. Goalies don’t make the NHL being THIS bad.

Hammond sucks so I dont want to defend him too much. But we did tip two past him, the second of which was followed immediately by a clean breakaway.

Even the "duck" goal was some weak sauce D from Zacha.

I mean, yes he's terrible, but I dunno, maybe we shouldn't be deflecting pucks past him.

Even if you don't think goalies are the problem here, you've gotta say that there's only even been 2 goalies that have ever been NHL caliber that we had playing here this year and that's Blackwood and Bernier and Blackwood hasn't really played at an NHL caliber rate (at least not a good NHL caliber rate) since January or February of 2021.

Wedgewood has NOT shown to be an NHL caliber goalie before this season (unless you wanna count his 4 games in 15-16) and he's almost 30 years old.

Daws and Schmid aren't ready yet.

Gillies has NEVER been NHL caliber and didn't even play a game between 2017-2018 and December of 2021.

Hammond had the FLUKIEST run in 14-15, has hardly played in the NHL since 15-16 and didn't play a single game in the NHL since April of 2018 before playing for the Canadiens in like January of 2022? Or was it February?

Suit up Miles Wood in goal. Would love to see that.

Honestly in all the years of watching hockey assiduously, I’ve never seen goaltending as consistently bad as during this last stretch of this season.

Tonight was like rock bottom when that last goal squeezed by Dawes shoulder from down low. Really it can’t get worse than this.

Gillies and Hammond are just not NHL goalies. I don't think the problem is they aren't trying.
