The patch looks like grandma sowed it on. And for me it’s all or nothing, so a bunch of ads or a single ad is the same. As I’m an avid soccer fan, I’m used it, but was always happy the NHL had preserved the jersey. I definitely wont take seriously all of the pass the torch garbage anymore though. We’re just a franchise like any other now. No identity, no respect for tradition. Just the Florida panthers of the north. Maybe it’s for the best and we can let go of all the myth making.
The lame pass the torch ceremonies from game openers were taken seriously? By who?

Of course, you mean figuratively. This passing of the torch is brought to you by Gillette, by the way.

They even passed the torch during a home game opener to Michou the toenail flicker and to players acquired in the off-season who had never played one game for the Habs.

You are correct — there is no passing of anything anymore.

How much Habs get a year for putting RBC patch on Jersey?
A reporter asked Geoff yesterday morning and his answer was curt — he won’t divulge how much money sponsors pay.

Hey Geoff, I don’t pay for Habs broadcasts, I watch play by play from opposition broadcasters so your CGI ads don’t appear for me and I miss out on all the in-game promos that your broadcasters use. I don’t know and don’t want to know that a power play is brought to me by one of your stooge corporate sponsors.

I have never bought Habs merch and never will but do know how to get knockoffs for cheap.

However, just like you with your sponsors I won’t divulge f*** all.

Bit of a bummer that they put on such an ugly log, clashes terribly. Could they not have chosen one more appealing?

Disgusting!

Anyone who switches to or starts to use RBC services because they saw the RBC logo on a Habs jersey is a moron.

If I was an RBC customer, I would switch to another Bank because of this. That is the only thing that would stop it.

Can’t wait to cheer for the bleu, blanc and reige with a bit of yellow for the current corporate sponsor.

I read someone say it's around 4 million for the big market teams, not sure how true that is though.
That's it? That bodes very poorly for the future of the ads on jersey debacle. At least I can still be told it's no big deal and as a consumer I deserve to have no opinion for another 5-10 ads.

My thought as well. Only $4 million?!

The Habs sold out there iconic jersey for less than the price of one 30 second Super Bowl ad

Which part of hockey is pure exactly? Lol
The jerseys are a historical iconic piece of culture. This is like if they put a corporate logo on the Mona Lisa. But hey, it’s 2022 and the corporations control everything anyway so let’s just bend over.

OK, someone on Twitter had mentioned $8M which is a good sum. He had it wrong then.

Gets uglier every time I look at it.

I really thought they'd at least make an effort to blend these monstrosities with the jersey to avoid ruining it but they went for the grotesque, oversized scout badge look with dumb flashy colors instead. I dislike this more by the minute, it's just wrong.
A lot of teams made the effort so far. Molson doesn't give a f***. I use to not care about Molson but this is just absolutely tasteless no matter how you look at it.

I don't wanna break your heart but wearing regular Habs clothing already did that, it's already advertising for a private company that wants your money
A brand is different than an advertisement though. Adrian’s makes the jerseys, so they put their brand on it. Way way different.

Says the hockey reporter whose salary is indirectly linked to NHL revenues.

The jerseys are an iconic piece of history and culture. Putting ads on crosses a line. This tweet is exactly what those against ads have been saying. If people have no awareness that some adds “are worse” than others, it opens the door to soccer like ads on NHL jerseys (ie I don’t want soccer like ads on jerseys says the guy who watches the team with a helmet logo and jersey logo already).

But they could put the brand anywhere where it's not visible.

Adidas isn't making the jerseys solely because the NHL is paying them good money.. they do it because it's an advertisement opportunity for the company.

Hockey Mecca
For a long time, the league refrained from doing this. They could've done it, but didn't need it and it left them with an image that they were bigger than that, bigger than all other hockey leagues. The league with the most class (in appearrance, ahem). The other hockey leagues in Europe, they did it because they were smaller, poorer. They needed to survive.

The NHL is not in survival mode, COVID is done and revenues are going up. They are debasing themselves and they aren't doing it for their survival, which makes it even worst.

And those who think this is as far as they will go, I bet you were saying the same thing when they put out the first ones on the helmet and you were all wrong but are still doubling down on your complacency.
