I officially won't buy anything that's nhl related their greed is too much i'm done.

Dude.....

The tickets are 100$-200$
The beer is 12$
An official NHL jersey is $200

And now you're done because they added an ads of their jersey?
At least this time, you don't have to pay for it.

When they okayed the ad on the helmet the argument was it's just one ad on the helmet. Now we're putting one on the sweater. Next will be what? The gloves, then the pants, and later the skates?

Having said that, I couldn't care less.

First thought is in 2 months no one will care or even notice.
And that's very worrisome. These corporations are not run by idiots. They've done studies. If in two months no one will notice it means the ads are doing their job.

People are conflating taking a position on the matter with narrating the causes that resulted in it. They are categorically different things. Everybody understands the causes. Telling us that this is what happens in capitalism is mindless boilerplate.

Besides that, there’s going to be a lot of room to find hypocrisy in all this (why are you mad at this and not mad at that, etc etc, low hanging fruit). But every once in awhile something happens that goes just a bit too far within the world of sports/hockey/Habs. Pointing that out doesn’t mean people don’t care about other issues.

The jersey was the transcendent part of the club. Not sure who posted a pick of Rocket Richard with an RBC logo but it gets at the point. 1940 1970 2010. Same jersey. Standing the test of time across generations and everyone who wore it, wore it with pride.

So yes you can brand everything and make a buck etc, nobody is putting that into question. But when it goes too far, don’t just feed everyone lines about how this is the way the world works. Point it out. Set boundaries. Kick up a storm. And maybe regain the thing that was lost.

A few years ago they tried to rename Parc avenue. Was set in stone and people reacted. Fortunately, the narrators of societal forces were muted from the debate.

It started with just a small helmet ad, then one small front crest ad, and then by 2030 we look like this boys lol

I don't believe this is a slippery slope to ads being plastered everywhere. Ads on jerseys have existed for decades; the NHL avoided them. They're making up for lost Covid revenue, but I seriously doubt they'll allow more and more ads to take over the jerseys.

Engel whole argument for the AD on our sacred jersey is pretty much '' its 2022 ''

Ok bro, lets put a Rogers AD on the Canadian flag to lower the price and extra revenue for our Telecom Services then, come on, its 2022.

Dumbass
Sure? We're supposed to be post-national or whatever anyway. Because it's 2022.

so if the jersey's are no longer cherished and legendary, take down the retired jerseys so I can see laFleur's 10 on the ice again! Cole gets 10, Suzuki can have 16 and Bedard will use 9

Exactly why i'm done their #$%$ greed is enough for this guy i'll just watch the game for free.

Jerseys sold to the public won't have the RBC logo on them . So stop whining.
Keep bending over good job.

So it wasn’t the greed that covered up concussion effects and sexual assault scandals didn’t do it for you, but the addition of a corporate logo on a jersey?
Yup final straw i did boycott hockey canada for the first time in 40 years.

Why? They went from nothing to colour-matched helmet wordmarks to a yellow logo on the front of the Canadiens red jersey in a span of like 3 years. I don't really see why they would stop here, especially given they can still add a ton more ads without reaching Europe levels so fans will always rationalize it as not that bad/could be worse etc.

The patch looks like grandma sowed it on. And for me it’s all or nothing, so a bunch of ads or a single ad is the same. As I’m an avid soccer fan, I’m used it, but was always happy the NHL had preserved the jersey. I definitely wont take seriously all of the pass the torch garbage anymore though. We’re just a franchise like any other now. No identity, no respect for tradition. Just the Florida panthers of the north. Maybe it’s for the best and we can let go of all the myth making.

One interesting factoid. In soccer, the authentic jersey is the one with the current corporate logos. Those are the ones fans want.

Fair take but I see this more as the times we're in rather than an attack on the sanctity of La Sainte-Flannelle.

Edit - i should add that the iconic logo you refer too, remains intact. They didn't change their logo, they added an ad sponsor to their uniform. To be fair.
The jersey is a symbol in itself. Its purity was one of the aspects that defined its iconic status. Just a beautiful rich red, a constrasting blue stripe and white lines, and that timeless logo. And the number in the back of course.
Simplicity is often the best course of action. And the Habs jersey wasn't only the symbol of our passion, it was just straight up a beautiful piece of clothing. Now it's less beautiful. Du gâchis, j'trouve. C'était beau parce que c'était si simple mais à la fois si efficace. Pis du jaune? Mon frère au sein du Christ... Mes yeux saignent.

I think we should more worried about the players wearing the jersey than a little logo on the jersey itself. The jerseys sold to the fans won't have the RBC logo on them.
