Non CMNT thing... One week today the CPL starts, get out and support the league if you can! A great way to enjoy some Canadian football as we wait for the biggest ticket event next fall!

That official in panama was such a phony. Giving the yellow card for time-wasting to the keeper deep in stoppage time.

He was doing that for the entire half, and the ref did nothing until the very end, as if he had already decided on when to punish him for it a long time ago, and the answer was that he was going to punish them at an inconsequential time.

The time wasting in the 2nd half made it feel like we only saw about 10 minutes of actual football being played in the 2nd. Part of it was panama being masterful about making it a stop and start kind of half, but they got away with some embarrassing level of time wasting tactics too.

I would be interested to hear peoples thoughts on this article:

Mark Twain once said that conservatives know the price of everything, but don't understand the value of anything. That's Chris Selley.

Look, I objected to us bidding on this, because FIFA. I was also reluctant about the multi-billion-dollar price tag of 2010.

But we're here now and we said we'd do the thing. Time for us to bend over and do the thing.

And now he red cards a random dude on the bench

He turned into a "tough guy" at the end of the match when Canada's fate was pretty much sealed.

You look at the stats at the end, and without watching the game, these cards make it look like the ref had good control over the match, but he was never in control when it mattered.

My takeaway from this was first of all, I'm grateful that we didn't see too much concacafing in the octaganol, and secondly, thank the lord that we don't have to worry about concacaf matches for a long time now.

The QC
Are we hoping to pull one of our CONCACAF brethern in the draw tomorrow? Or are there rules to prevent that? I mean, having to face either the US or Mexico should give our boys some confidence.

Too bad about pot 4, but we were ranked near a hundred when all this began... hard to complain.

UEFA is the only confederation that can have 2 teams in the same group

yes - we must do this now... because when will it ever happen again for us?

Yes. We were very lucky to only see this crap at the end of the cycle.

Best case

Qatar-Uruguay?-Poland?

If we get Qatar we couldn't get anyone else from that region so I think that would be optimal

Worst case

Brazil-Germany-Senegal

Honestly so much depends on which teams get lucky and get Qatar, a relative bye compared to the other Pot 1 teams.
