Some of the reports (first coming from TSN) are pretty eloquent, and the victim's lawyer confirms the large settlement.

It's pretty obvious this girl was intimidated into not talking and then her silence was bought with several million dollars in the hope this would go away. Some of the details, like Renney pretending that HC does not know the identity of the 8 players, are very clearly lies. Something of this magnitude is well known by the team and by HC, and it has been known for years.

The only way to make sure we learn more about this is to keep talking about it and demand more information and concrete action. If there is enough pressure, if this story doesn't go away before the next season, there is a chance this is discussed more extensively, that we will learn more and that not only will these individuals be held accountavle but more importantly, that we will see changes in the ugly, toxic culture surrounding this otherwise beautiful sport.

It is reasonable to assume that the victim herself doesn’t know the identities of all 8 guys since she doesn’t know them all personally. There is a good chance that HC doesn’t know the names of all 8.

Canadian Government is freezing any funds for Hockey Canada until Hockey Canada agrees to sign up with an independent agency that can investigate reports of abuse of inappropriate behavior moving forward.

Back to the OP:

In related news we are all happy to report the Canadian government has also agree freeze any funds for Federal government until the Federal government agrees to sign up with an independent agency that can investigate reports of abuse of inappropriate behavior moving forward for all elected officials of all parties.

Its really sick to read how people jump to conclusions based on ZERO facts. The public doesn't have enough information to make any judgments.

I don't care how much of a Hockey Canada fan you are, this situation is appalling. These players were adults at the time and should be treated and put to trial as such, it is blasphemous that these Hockey Canada cronies did everything in their power to cover up a sexual assault. Hockey Canada needs to change, it needs new blood, get rid of the cover up old cronies starting with Tom Renney.

Hockey needs to grow up. I've seen superstar hockey kids, from the time they're 10 years old, get treated like they are kings and like they can do no wrong. Adults bowing down to them while they're walking out of the dressing room, it's pathetic. The kids develop an overblown ego, commit ridiculous crap, always knowing their adult fans/cronies will take care of their mess.

Enough!!!!!

Should be interesting to see if any of the big names on that team suddenly start "remembering" what happened.

No more sweeping this shit under the rug, and throwing taxpayer money at rape victims, fellas. :shakehead

So they are using the same law firm as the one they used in 2018 to investigate this incident again? The same law firm that has build their name and reputation on defending sexual predators like Ghomeshi, Frost, and Regan.
How impartial will the investigation be again.
How is doing the same thing as before going to change the results?

Because now they promise they'll be more thorough. :help:

It took money and sponsorships pulling out to get the scumbags at Hockey Canada to do a proper investigation 5 years later.

Im certain names will be released on who was actually responsible and committed the crime. Id be terrified if i was a An Nhl team who has one of these players on my roster. The Hammer is about to come down.

Dallas's only link to that WJC team (Colton Point) was not tendered a QO, so they won't see any blowback - I don't think they will, anyway. :help:

Colton Point did not play in the CHL which means he wasnt involved, all 8 alleged were CHL players as well which is why guys like Makar and Fabbro are also not under investigation.

Will these guys get cancelled if found guilty?

My question is, not if but WHEN the names of the 8 alleged assailants get named and if they are found guilty, how big will the punishment be.

Suspension from NHL? Contract void?

Can Criminal charges still be laid or is there a statute of limitation and does the settlement prevent any charges from being laid?

There has been a MASSIVE outcry from the public regarding this situation and Government is now involved by taking away funding as well as Sponsorships have pulled their affiliation with Hockey Canada.

So you can be sure the HAMMER is about to come down on these 8 players.

There are some big name players too on this list that fits the criteria of 2018 CHL Player/WJC Team Canada Members:

Robert Thomas
Jordan Kyrou
Drake Batherson
Dillon Dube
Jake Bean
Cal Foote
Carter Hart
Maxime Comtois
Alex Formenton
Sam Steele
Brett Howden
Michael Mcleod
Tyler Steenbergen
Taylor Raddysh
Boris Katchouk
Jonah Gadjovich
Cale Clague

For the record, the settlement between HC and the complainant doesn't shield in any way the perpetrators from police investigation and, eventually, criminal proceedings.

There is no statute of limitations for Cr. C. infractions and a private law deal between two private entities (that means "not the Crown ") is only binding between the entities.

Seems fair to me unless they are trying to hide something. I see no reason why Hockey Canada should be up in arms about this.
