It's always a safe bet that this thread pops off with major hot takes after most games (mostly Toronto games) that go extreme one way or the other. If a team wins--watch out they are on the upswing and are dangerous! But if they lose... they won't even makes the playoffs and are trash teams. Like, the Leafs can apparently just coast to the playoffs because they have been on a hot streak to start the season and won a boring game? Not saying they aren't the best team in the division but... yikes. Makes it hard to root for the Leafs in general with takes like that.

What about last week when the Montreal was winning and their fans were starting new topics like could Bergevin win GM of The Year? So it's not like they weren't acting like everything was 100% with them and nothing could go wrong.

Honestly, 90% of Leaf fans don't think like that. Also every fanbase has fans with great hot takes, but franchises like Toronto & Montreal have an even higher amount of emotion after wins and losses, hockey is life in these cities (especially Montreal)

Yeah that's also dumb. That's why the first half of my post was about the general attitude around overreactions. Habs fans singing their own praises and overreacting everywhere doesn't mean that other teams doing the same can be hand waived away?

The Leafs are my second team so I 100% understand that the 90% is good, but the vocal minority is unfortunately just that much greater with a fanbase the size that Leafs and Habs have. This thread just feels like a great way to get a consolidated look of crazy hot takes after one game, on a consistent basis

Fully agree. It's hot take city in here. If the Leafs and Habs meet in the playoffs HF will crash and the servers will melt lol

I'd love to see the Habs and Leafs meet in the playoffs and there's a decent chance it'll happen this season. It'd be good for the rivalry that's for sure. A rivalry that's been lacking for a long time.

God's country just outside of Calgary
Looking forward to the up coming four game stint against the Canucks. I worry though that they might actually start playing the caliber of hockey that I thought they were capable of at the start of the season. They have some very dangerous players on their team and Vancouver has always been a difficult opponent for Calgary.

I'm going to come clean guys. I absolutely despise the Edmonton Oilers because they're ruining the career of a future Toronto Maple Leafs great Connor McDavid. :sarcasm:

July 2026 can't come quick enough. Sheesh.

McDavid, Nylander, Matthews, Marner, Old man JT, 86 year old Jason Spezza and 124 year old Jumbo. Make it happen Dubas/ whoever the Leafs GM is in 2026.

And then 2032, we bring home Shane Wright. :naughty::naughty::sarcasm:

Funny thing is Tavares contract expires before 2026.

Every contract expires before 2026. If you think the Leafs aren't setting themselves up for the McDavid sweepstakes. You've got another thing coming. My comment was half serious. haha

In all honesty, I would happily pay up Matthews what he wants and Mitch and throw the bank at McDavid. Those 3 alone should keep us at the top of the league as contenders. McDavid would be a pretty easy get since I don't think it really gets any better in the NHL than to come to play for your hometown team in your prime where Mitch and Auston are waiting for you. Sure beats playing for the Oilers, even if they have Drai.

Maybe something along the lines of;

Robertson (bridge) - McDavid (max) - Amirov (bridge)
Hyman (seniors discount) - Matthews (max) - Marner (max)
xxx - JT (seniors discount) - xxx

Looks doable. I'm assuming Willy's gonna price himself out pretty easily by the end of this contract.

Habs fan checking in, thought both teams didn’t play their best, Habs especially fumbled the puck around a lot more. Leafs defintely have a more clutch ability around the net. leafs winning without any of their big guns scoring is big for them. For the Habs outshooting them by a good margin while playing fairly poorly is a positive I guess.

thought Habs were better 5 on 5. Anything not 5 on 5 leafs are going to work them

price needs to be a lot better. I think the organization needs to stop treating him like a god and put some pressure on him. Sit him 3-4 straight and let allen run with it for a bit. He’s 30 for all we know he could be peaking. What is price going to do? Ask for a trade? Good luck any team wanting 10.5 for what he brings most of the year especially in a flat cap. I’m not saying the sky is falling but please but some pressure on him. He is a slow starter the last few years but come on.

leafs are the number 1 team in the div until proven otherwise

Edit and for f sakes price get rid of the red pads u never play good in those

Never seen him wear those before and I mentioned to the wife how awesome I thought they looked. Looking forward to the next game against you!

Edmonton
Eliminating the Vancouver games (who both the Leafs and Habs have beat up on) from Montreal's results, the Habs are 4-3-1, just slightly above .500.
Also beat on Edmonton when we were so green. No line chemistry at all on any line. Bad Barrie. No JP playing well with McDavid. Bouchard looks good and he didn't get to play yet. Bottom 6 is better. PP was trash and looked like it was 5 guys who have never seen one another. Price played like a god in the 2nd period. People forget that. Oil should have been winning in the 2nd of game 1 and that was the bad game.

Lets be real though, wouldn't that be amazing? I mean what fan from either franchise wouldn't relish reawakening the most storied rivalry in hockey?

It would be incredible. Hockey needs a series like this and the two teams need to renew this rivalry.

Weber gave an extra emphasis elbow to JT. Cannot stand JT's (NYI) antic(s), but not a fan of Weber's 'maneuver.' JT's star is fading though, skating was good-very good (now avg).

That said, MTL are riding from their bubble experience. They augmented, would like to see them in a 'real' season. I like the team, their series v. PHI opened my eyes. Domi was basically a 4th liner (in that series), for Anderson. Let's see how Anderson's health holds up.

Guy got a stick in the face followed up with an elbow to the back of the head driving his face into the ice. Did you not see the blood? People like you are a joke. Antics? I'm 220 lbs. Tell you what, let me hit you in the face with my stick then drive your face into the ice with an elbow in the back of your head. I'm sure you'll get up right away. If not, it's just "antics".

Meh. Non Leafs fans will never root for the Leafs, so f*** it. So far, I've found Montreal to be neither tough, fast, good defensively, well coached or particularly deep.

No there really isnt much talent there.

They had a few players playing above their heads and are now regressing back to the non playoff team they are. If the divisions hadnt been rejigged this year, they would stand no shot at the playoffs.

Are people really arguing that Torontonians prefer Ontario to BC/Alberta?

Ontario is nothing special, and I’ve seen just about all there is to see.

Most people I know would love to move out west if it wasn’t for family/friends/jobs holding them back. I also know many who made the jump who I visit often.

Calgary might be my dream city if I had a choice of where to live.
