The anti-Canada pattern on this board is strong these days. Kid made a mistake, get over it.

Remember, it's how you carry yourself ALL the time. Tell that to the Russians.
That’s bullshit. He’s been playing hockey his entire life. Taking off your hat or helmet for the anthem is something you learn from day 1. This isn’t a “mistake”, especially not one a captain of a team should be making.

Classless act. And... He is gfs the captain!

Hockey rink is wrong place to protest for/against some real/imaginary political conundrums, and disrespecting flag and national anthem in this kind circumstance is just petty. Regardless of who is classless. It's in The Code of international hockey.

Good thing. Probably every single guy playing in the tournament can take the lesson from this, and move on showing class at the bare minimum level of good conduct, sportmanship, and player-to-player respect.

Hockey Canada is dropping the ball by not getting ahead of this before the entire NHLPA chimes in and it becomes the topic du jour.

Trot him out, get him to say a few words, and then worry about the next game.

I guess it's getting pretty late over there in Ostrava.

Many Canadians would be furious if this was the other way around. I think the response from Team Russia is perfectly justified. Bad look for the Captain of the team to do something like this. More is expected when you represent the county on the national stage.

Seems like "boys will be boys" unless its a Swede (Andersson) or Russian (Kostin) on the other end of things

Both those kids got roasted for poor sportsmanship

Why would the NHLPA get involved?

Well, it's like 12:52 AM in Ostrava?

I suspect curfew is in force.

May have to find out tomorrow.

If he just says "sorry, I was a bit shell-shocked after the loss," I'm sure this will be water under the bridge.

So this thread and twitter has expectedly turned into a #CancelHayton echo chamber.

If he wants to apologize, good on him. If not, don't force it.

It's about more than him at this point. It's about the team he represents, which also happens to be a national team.

It's also about his fellow players, and not getting distracted by this stupid story.

Being the Captain of a national team is no joke.
