This shit happens in every country where sportsmen are kings. In Finland and Canada, it's ice hockey. Already masculine sport, these kids are so f***ing entitled from the beginning, idolized and have no f***ing understanding what "no" means. They get and want all the ladies, and when one does not compute, they can't handle it, they must have.

I love hockey as a sport, but too many of the players and people involved are bags of shit.

Does the article claim that the video identifies the 6 players?

If they can’t be identified from video, it may be challenging to determine the perpetrators. This is a nearly 20 year old event, gathering information won’t be a walk in the park.
It only takes one player with a smack of conscience to open up and describe who and what.

Outside of North America, not sure I really agree with this. Don't a lot of European Hockey Powers have some mandatory Army type service for 1 or 2 years? My impression, unless proven wrong is this type of crap doesn't seem to happen in Sweden or Finland for example. I'm not even sure those players are idolized or treated the same as in Canada. I just assume these countries have a bit more structure for their young athletes.
I have a former associate who worked for me in the summers and would go to Europe to play in various leagues between Sweden, Italy, Switzerland and Finland over the 5 years I knew him. Your world view is more of a guess and it is incorrect, Europe has a strong alcohol culture and stuff like this happens everywhere in the hockey world at all ranks.

This party and getting drunk culture is not exclusive to Canada. It’s pretty much everywhere in the world specially in the 16-25 yrs age group

Alcohol is to blame for the majority of bad decisions one can make.

Literaly every sport though, and musicians.

People just don't think about it, but it happens way too often.
Gang rape doesn't seem to be an issue with touring bands and musicians or at least it's not publicized. It does seem to be an issue with young males involved in group sports though.

What I found troubling was Jordan Tootoo's disgusting remarks regarding the 2003 team in his book. He literally illustrates a gang rape scene but now he has released a statement saying he knew nothing of these allegations. It strains all credibility. He obviously knew.

If they need to be punished according to law so be it. But i am sick of these moralists on hfboards.com. You see it even now, in 2022 so many women or girls are enamored with these hockey players. Just recently, some reporter cheated on her fiance with ian f***ing cole for example. Many of you probably too old to remember but i will remind you. 16-20 yo boys, especially within colllective are not the most decent people out there. And these young elite hockey players are rockstars, like that excerpt from tootoo says, with girls going after them. There is a good possibility some of them might have crossed the line in those circumstances, that does not make them automatically rapists or criminals.

Also, f*** rick westhead.
I'd say a video - seen by three witnesses willing to testify - that shows an unconscious girl being raped on a pool table by six members of the 2003 team is proof enough. The players involved including the cameraman are rapists. These players are lauded as NHL stars. People are justifiably outraged. What is wrong with you?

I think Hockey Canada needs to be cleaned up and brought to account, and the institutional failures rise to level of sanctions from the IIHF (I know this won't happen, but nevertheless). That said, making assumptions or speculating about who was involved in the alleged 2003 incident based on perceptions of what players were obnoxious jagoffs in their NHL career is unhelpful and a road we shouldn't be going down at all.

What about soccer over there?
I suppose there's more of a chance og something like this to happen to soccer players, but remember that in Europe kids aren't being idolised like in the US and Canada. They're not famous or well known at all. European sports is about idolizing and watching grown men play and not teenagers.

Nothing wrong with hockey culture at all. Nope.
I lived next to a person who took in OHL players for 4 years in Kingston... These Jr hockey players care about 3 things, sex, drinking and hockey ( in that order)At the time I was same age as the players and went. to a few of the parties they had, it was eye opening.

This kinda stuff doesn't happen in Finland, this seems to be more of a Team Canada kinda bonding. Also stuff what's been going on in Canadian junior leagues and how they treat rookies doesn't happen in Europe.

This is not a hockey problem, it's Canadian hockey problem.

This is the sad part about this situation?
Let me change that post

I meant the way these guys portrayed themselves to fans, was not the reality.

These Jr Teams are going to need a proper chaperone system in place aren't they? along with Sexual harassment trainings.
Do we need junior hockey though?

Ah, I see what you mean. Hockey has this problem in general though and has for a long time. A lot of hockey promotion is based on the NHL presenting itself as an "every person" sport with a working/middle class background. In reality, the sport is very expensive to play even at low levels and gets extremely expensive at high levels, so it is mostly wealthy people playing it. Many opportunities for advancing in the sport as well are based solely on connections, not merit.

It's definitely not a bad thing that the sham facade the sport puts on gets broken.

Calling out the "hfboards moralists" because they condemned gang raping an unconscious young woman.

That's quite the hot take.

Just so we're clear because who anyone who read your post but not Tootoo's book exerpt might get the wrong idea...Tootoo didn't describe a gang rape scene. Simply that some players were looking for group sex activities (which can be completely consensual). No need to twist words
