GDT: Canada vs USA

Dogfish Head routinely makes 18% beers like their 120 Minute IPA.

This “US beer is weak” was probably true back in the 1980s.
You cannot convince me that 120 minute IPA is “good”

Like I’m sure it gets you crippled, but you can’t truly enjoy it. There’s no way.

I’m not much of a fan.

I’ll do a good Double IPA which usually tops out at around 9-10% or maybe a Belgian Quadruppel which is around 13-14%.
I can handle double or triple IPA or a good imprerial, but drinking beer at a near 20% abv seems… well dumb.

I never said it was.

It’s impressive in that there is a hoppy taste to it which takes an insane amount of hops given how sweet that amount of alcohol is, but more of a curiosity that you share with others.

The point I’m refuting is that American beer is weak.

Can I ask which D's you'd take over jiricek, svozil and Spacek? Being serious. I think all 3 would make Canada. Maybe Kulich at forward.
There is no defenseman in this tournament I’d take over Jiricek. He’s really talented and is very physically mature.

In terms of best D in the tournament I think it goes to USA. I just think they underachieved. Hughes has been off all year since coming off injury. Seamus Casey is a great player. Hutson is incredibly dynamic. I think Czech’s defense has definitely overachieved at this point overall.

Obviously, Jiricek would’ve made Canada. But despite playing extremely well, Svozil, Spacek, and Tichacek wouldn’t have made it out of camp. They are just playing really well in this tournament.

Kulich definitely would’ve made team Canada out of camp. He’s just a really solid versatile guy.

What is the point of an 18% beer? If you don’t like the taste and just wanna get drunk then just guzzle hard liquor.
I remember back in the 70's (yes, I am ancient) there was a beer out of Quebec named Brador. I think it was about 8%, or maybe 10% alcohol. It wasn't really enjoyable, unless you just wanted to get stinko. Can't imagine how something with 18% alcohol could be called "beer", really.

Jiricek has been the best D in this tournament.....Hughes is way too much of a puck hog.

It's still available but I think they dropped the alcohol content a bit. My flatmate and I would pick it up coming back from Ontario at Duty Free all the time in the early 90's.

I do like your Kings sweater (avatar)
Thanks! It was from an old blog called the NHL Tournament of Logos way back when people still read lots of blogs (i.e. way back when I first joined HFBoards). It is pretty cool that the reverse retros have been close to this jersey. I think I like both of our reverse retros better than my avatar, actually.

I do know that my friend returned from the Czech Republic (sorry, that's what I still call it so I hope I am not banned) and just stated that if you like beer, you need to move to a European country that understands not only how to brew it, but how to store it, serve it etc.
Makes me want to visit.
I guess I should mention hockey in this message to make it legit, so would say they love hockey and beer there.
I think it goes without question the euros do beer the best, specifically Germans and Czechs.
