Too bad Russia lost that game. I really thought they were the better team in both games against the OHL. The conditions in that swimming pool they call a rink definitely favored a lumbering, slogging OHL team over a quick and slick Russian team that forced a lot of turnovers in the neutral zone to create breakaways, only to have the puck melt into the ice. And then there is the penalty ratio of 47:1 to try to overcome. The 3rd period should mark the end of Sukhachev's candidacy for a WJC spot, he gave the game away.

Theres always an excuse.

Tonight it is penalties and sloggy ice, never heard the ice one before tonight, the ref one is a an old standard that never tires.

Has Russia ever lost a game legitimately i wonder? god they are hard done by.

It's gotta be tough. I mean to have played thousands of games and you have deserved to win every one only to have boatloads of them taken away by nefarious methods of all evil sorts, that is tough for any fan.

Wait until you see what happens in the QMJHL games. I heard that they are going to turn off the lights any time Russia gets a breakaway and that the Russian players have to play with mini-sticks. It makes sense though, anything to win this prestigious series.

Was at the game tonight. Pu and Suzuki were very impressive in person, made something happen almost every time they touched the ice.

I generally liked what I saw today, but most of that OHL roster looked like potential depth players to me. Suzuki should have a prominent role and Timmins looked ready. Guys like Ang, Gadjovich, Katchouk and Pu all looked pretty good, but I only see them in potential supporting roles.

I'm not sure "lumbering and "slogging" are accurate terms to describe a team consisting of the likes of Formenton, Pu, Ang, Tippett, Durzi, etc., who are faster than anyone on the Russian roster (except maybe Altybarmakyan), and some of the fastest you will find anywhere at the U-20 level.

Tied up on a nice steal by the Russian player (or some might say a careless give up by the Q player) A bit of both really.

1 all.

That was Russia's worst performance by far tonight. Very lethargic and disinterested. They look like they are ready to pack up and go home. Congrats to the QHL, who played with a lot of intensity and were clearly hungry for the win! They clearly deserved it tonight.

Going into this series, Russian fans would think that Maltsev and Abramov would be 2 guys that would have a high probability of making the WJC team. I will be surprised if either one makes it this year. Did you see the look that Bragin gave Maltsev when he made a backward pass to a Canadian player for an open-net goal, because he lacked the character to try to fight to get the puck up the ice. What a dick!

How did Batherson look? I know he netted a goal against the Russians but haven't heard about how he looked and played.

Didn't see the sixth game. Anyone willing to post impressions?
As dull as it gets from both teams. If Russia didn't have a 1 line team they should have beaten this Q team by a margin.

Again close to nothing from Rubtsov aka WJC 1C and Abramov aka CHL product. The GWG after a major defensive blunder by Canadians on a 2 on 1 odd man rush was the ONLY noticable action from the two. Manukian was the best player on their line(Abramov wasn't able to convert on a brilliant feed from Manukian midway through).

The D without Samorukov just abysmal. Slow, bad decisions, no help for the forwards.

Melnichuk seems inconsistent. Not as brilliant as in his first start. But it was an okay game overall from him.

Altybarmakian - Maltsev - Polodyan were good. Obviously AA-16 is the only real standout here though.

Series aftermath:

Altybarmakian, Sokolov, Samorukov, Manukian should be locks for WJC.

The center depth is non-existent. Therefore we will probably see Rubtsov and maybe Lipanov. If there were options I would gladly cut both at this point.

Roughly I would have this for WJC:

Altybarmakian - Maltsev - Polodyan

Manukian - Lipanov - Sokolov

from this series. With Svechnikov and Kostin it looks alright. Rubtsov because we lack centers and cut Abramov ffs.

There should be guys like Kravtsov from the other squad there too.

The curious case of Artem Manukian. He has all the tools... but he is literally the Lionel Messi of hockey. Exactly the size(170cm) and wears the 10. Question is - can he survive any jumps with that size? Right now his talent allows him to be effective in juniors.

Wait until I will again get attacked for critisizing young Russians for jumping to NA. Abramov the great standout talent of this birth year after a couple of years in the CHL :help:

Same goes for Mr. I-won't-earn-my-minutes-in-the-KHL Rubtsov.
