Strome hasn't had any urgency in his game this year, a bit disappointing.

I like Strome more than most but isn't that kind of the constant knock on him? He plays the exact same way in an exhibition as an elimination game. It's fine when you win but when you lose...well it kind of reminds me of the criticism Thornton got/gets.

One thing I would change is having an assistant coach from one year take over the next. After last year none of the coaches should have been invited back.

That's a tough argument to make when you look at the draft pedigree of some of these guys, though the bigger picture may be that D. Strome and Dubois may not actually be great third overall picks for example.

Exactly. Our top players are not at the calibre that the other powerhouse teams have. Kaprizov, Nylander, Keller for example.

Also, guys like Joseph, Dube, Cirelli, Roy, McLeod, Speers are guys that ideally would be 4th liners. In 2015 we had Robby Fabbri on the third line.

Going in, we all knew this was a pretty weak team on paper. But they played so well in the pre-tournament games + the first two games that they had seemingly overcome the weaknesses in the roster. Last 2 games and a period are now indicating otherwise.

Chabot is like the only Canadian player who's playing well.

Really? He has been skating up the ice well with the puck, but his passing has been way off. A lot of blocks and intercepted/missed passing so far from him. I'm not sure what is going on....his vision i usually so much better.

ZERO chance canada loses this game, but they do not look like a top team for sure.

I think it comes down to this team just not being all that skilled... Outside of Strome maybe there isn't really any marquee talent on this roster. It's a team of cogs with no one to actually make the motor run.

Relatively speaking this is a down year but they should still be able to get some consistent zone time against the Czechs. I'll never buy the lack of skill argument against the 1B tier of teams like the Czechs, we have so much depth compared to these nations.

Cross the red line, dump the puck in and get heavy on the forecheck.

Looks like a passenger to the play to me.

boooo he's their best D. None of these guys play perfect games

What I don't understand is why they are playing so differently from the first two games. That high-intensity cycle and forecheck game was the perfect playing style for this roster and they put on a clinic.

The team that showed up against Russia and Slovakia is literally the complete opposite to the team that played against the USA and the Czechs so far.

I agree its very strange to watch. Id like to see Mcleod play some more, atleast he works hard and plays a heavy game. Really tired of watching Dube and Speers plug it up.

After watching the Juniors from the mid-90s to now, it's quite evident that there has been a significant culture change in Canadian hockey. The sport itself has become very individualistic in Canada and that makes it incredibly difficult for teams to bond in tournaments that are all about finding chemistry as quickly as possible.

We're essentially witnessing the decline of Canadian dominance at the junior level.

I don't understand the roster strength excuse in a game vs. the Czechs. It's puzzling.

To me this looks more like a systems(can't deal with a NZ trap for ****) and a leadership issue. Just need everyone to work like Cirelli/Dube regardless of what line they're on.

If the Czechs are going to line up 5 across at the blue line, they're going to need all 3 Forwards to hit the blue line with speed and retrieve the puck, feed it back to the points and get to the net for the shot. Simplify north / south with hustle and they'll be fine.

Like we witnessed in the late 90's?

This is one of the Czechs best teams in a long time. Also, if they get a lucky break and start to trap (which they have), you need to be considerably more skilled to break them down.

Not sure if the gap in talent is as big as it needs to be.
