Well that was stinky, this could be one ugly tournament.

This sort of showing by our teams and roster composition simply cannot be allowed to stand.

Nothing, not hearing a thing.

I really would rather hear some hard declines than radio silence on some of these guys. The more ridiculous and less likely question starts to creep up otherwise: "Did HC even ask these guys?". Which, if they didn't, indicates there needs to be house cleaning at the top. Some of us need to @hockeycanada and @HC_Men for some answers and accountability.

Jost is a decent add but is a small fraction of the talent lost with Tavares.

I'm with you on this one.

I mean, even Jost, that is a fairly lukewarm addition. I don't know what to say.

Jost joining the team.

that's good news. but we are going to need 2 more significant players. and I mean significant A-team players if this tournament is going to be salvaged.

luckily the next few weeks look to be exceptionally busy with work...so not much time to watch and stew over this tournament.

Nurse is trash.

Chabot, Stone and Marchessault were the only players that really made an impact tonight. They just dont have any top end talent after those 3 + Theodore and Couturier (who had an underwhelming game tonight). Very dissapointing roster and participation this year, I really dont understand the Jost addition. They needed two elite forwards and a top pair RD there right side of the D core is really really weak. They needed something like Barzal, Seguin and one of Subban/Brodie/Ellis to play.

Dubois has been added as well. I'm happy enough with that. Neither will make a Tavares like impact, but Jost is better than his numbers indicate and Dubois is a promising young centre.

another d-man would be nice as well.

that makes 14 forwards. somebody goes to the pressbox. (McCann) and Strome stapled to the bench as 1the 13th. F.

Dubois is pretty good, that's some relief. That's definitely it for forwards though, Canada would never bring 15F (only a few countries have ever done that).

I'd still like another top-end D and perhaps this team could be a medal contender.

I don't know who here is watching the u.s-slovakia game but you watch the slovaks and you know that's how we should be playing as a team.

They WANT it. Makes all the difference in the world. Last years team and this years in the first game are teams that didn't play like they wanted it.

nothing beats a motivated hockey player. a full team of team of them jacked up for the home crowd is difficult to overcome.

Absolutely.

I am just so disappointed at some of our teams effort of late, and I thought I would never say that as work ethic and intensity was always our bread and butter. It's very concerning.

Dubois is a great forward, I am looking forward to watch him playing at the tournament.

Any news on a d-man being added? What's up with Morgan Rielly? Did he come out of the Boston series injured or does he have a bachelor party/wedding to attend in August?

That's 3 years in a row and he's a no show. Dude is acting like he's a Calgary Flame Canadian.

I was expecting to hear or see something regarding him coming to the tournament in some way but I don't remember even reading that he declined an invitation. Just radio silence.

yeah, disappointing. If available next year I'd like Rielly to show up along with Marner with his big, fat shinny new contract. and J.T. owes us one as well.

I wouldn't hang Team Canada based on the one match against well acclimatized close-nit, but motley group of underdogs of Team Finland (noname neverheard leftovers, but led by top elite international coach), no matter what was on a paper names-sake. Maybe Team Canada's performance was clearly sub-par by all measures and expectations, but as it was, it'll also likely improve a lot more easier for later phases of the tournament. But still, the first game should've been piece of cake for Team Canada.

Maybe there should've been some historical lessons to learn from to not to take that kind scenarios against Team Finland like a mundane park walk. Most of Team Finland's historical success has come with teams that have had similar specs on a paper measured by individual talents, but lack of skill countered with extraordinary team cohesion and apparent high spirit. This time Finnish paper looks exceptionally - if not ugly - rather uninspiring. That doesn't mean it translates well to on-ice.

So, not too much worries dear Canadians. Let's wait and see to Game #9 and I think everything will be ok.

I doubt they took the Finns easily, they just have had so little preparation time as a team compared to the
Finnish squad and need to get more cohesion,I mean, it's Finland not Botswana, they knew that.Saw the same thing with the U.S team yesterday also, disorganized as all get go.

I have to think they will get better as the games go along like you said but this team isn't going to blow anyone away even if they get it together as a unit full bore as the roster just doesn't have the top end talent to do that.

Is he really that bad. ?

Would people think differently about him if marner was picked ahead of him ?

Toronto got lucky there

Was that chykas first year as manager? Lol
When i watched him in Chicago this year he was actually pretty good but every time this guy wears the TC jersey he seems useless and yesterday was no different. Plus, I just don't think the big ice suits his game at all as he seems to struggle to cover all that extra space and be in the right spot in time to make plays.

I hate to grind on the guy because he at least seems to want to play and represent Canada internationally but his game drives me nuts.

And yeah................Toronto dodged a bullet for sure.

I wonder who Toronto would have picked if they had the 3rd over all instead of the 4th

Lol

I am pretty sure the Leafs were high on Marner all along. The reports at the time were that the Leafs were considering a trade down to target Werenski, theoretically in the case that Marner was taken at 3.
