Arent they both LHD??

yeah, handedness doesn't enter his thought process.

I subscribe to the Mike Babcock theory of big ice hockey, everybody plays their strongside. The only player I would consider in that group to move to RD would be Brodie, only because he does it so well with Girordano during the season. That may not carry over to the big rink, however. regardless I don't think either agrees on joining in.

Yeah I guess with the bigger ice the forecheck wont be as intense as in the NHL ,but I can see why more and more team dont like running defenders on the offside....Good forechecking teams will make off handed defensemen cry when they are fumbling around trying to take pucks on their backhands....

Meh some Canadians players got no pride anymore Ovechkin always goes. someone get crosbys lazy ass over there.... always pisses me off how many Canadians turn It down compared to the Russians.

anymore? It's always been difficult to get players to commit to this thing, and it's a little bit annoying. but some of the roster variance year to year is part of the reason why I like and follow the tournament. I'd like a little better commitment from our top players, we have a lot to choose from, but relying on the same 12 guys every year would kill my interest in this tournament. I think I'd tune it out pretty quickly.

If Canada adds either Matt Benning or Kris Russel it would be fun see the response. I put Troy Stecherin the same catagory as them. Canada may only beat Great Britain and France this time around

Troy Stecher is wayyyy better than those guys. Especially Russell. It’s a shooting gallery against Russell’s team when he’s on the ice meanwhile Stecher is a play driver.

If you want a comparable for Stecher the best is Jared Spurgeon. More specifically, when Jared Spurgeon was Troy Stevher’s age they were very comparable. Spurgeon took huge strides offensively and Stecher hasn’t yet but as far as small defenseman who are good defensively and drive possession, they’re similar.

Maybe the difference is that Russia hasn’t won anything of significance at the men’s level since the 1981 Canada Cup, therefore there is a feeling need to to make up for it and accept more, and the players themselves know this.

Canada wins majority of the time we have our best players available, we can see this 2002 OG, 2004 WCOH, 2010 OG, 2014 OG, 2016 WCOH etc while it’s nice to see us win this tournament at the end of the day in generalCanada doesn’t have anything to prove, unlike Russia who does.

I would agree with that. any more Stechers of the world join the team and are top 4 d-men, then yes, we are most likely royally screwed. It won't be pretty.

but I'm still entertaining visions of a V Dunn C Parayko 3rd. pairing Go Dallas.
and if only Gio, Brodie, Rielly, Ellis would get off the crapper, then we'd be in good enough shape. I'd be confident that we would have the makings of a team that could compete for a gold medal.

I wonder if the Islanders get knocked out will any of them rush to help out their former captain? I think Trotz did a bang up job this year using J.T.'s departure the key in motivating his players this year. masterful job he's done. But there are 4-6 Islanders players I'd like to see join should they bow out here in the next week.

I forgot about Ellis. That would be a very nice addition. No contract or health issues either. I saw a game in Nashville this year and he was as smooth as always.

Just realized this could have been the only chance for McDavid and Crosby to play together as teammates in a high stakes (relatively speaking - this isn't the Olympics) tournament, ever, while both still near top shape.

Kind of sucks neither/nor will make it.

But but but... we got to see the dream pairing of McDavid and Eichel in 2016! Long live those memories.

lol what a horrible take. It's a weak Canadian squad compared to what weve iced the last 4 tournaments, but its nowhere near as bad as you claim it to be. Go away.

Not sure if srs but you realize almost all Canadian talent has declined invitations right?

McDavid, MacKinnon, Barzal, Athanasiou, Point just off the top of my head are all likely top 10 skaters in the league.
Yeah i understand your point that Canada has some top skaters in the NHL who can skate, but my point is that if you look at the NHL, you can hardly find any American players who are below average skater. While you look at Canadian players in the NHL, you will find many players who are average skaters or below average. This is my point!!

And consequently, there will be many future implications. I will let you make the predication.

Could it be because Canadians make up the majority of the players in the league? Hmm I wonder :sarcasm: If you really think there aren't "average or below average" American skaters in the league you clearly don't watch enough hockey.

only a few days away and Barzal + others will be freed up from the Island to join. would love to see him wheel on big ice one more time. score some goals this time. I'll take Devon Towes and Ryan Pulock as well. Wasn't all that impressed with Baily last year on big ice, and in a normal year I'd say keep looking, but this isn't a normal year. an all Islander 3rd. line of Beau Barzal Baily Towes Pulock. and let it rip.

There used to be a time when a lot of the top Russians didn't go either, late 90s early 2000s, although the reasons might primarily have been due to federation politics.

No way do players from second round going to go...we cant even get players from non playoff teams to go now , i cant imagine players from second round going..no way...

These players should repay HC all the money spent by HC...this should be some sort of deal....represent your country at least 2 times or repay....

The problem with canadian and usa players is their mentality. Look at players from other countries.
The clear example of right mentality = check where is Anze Kopitar now.

That’s all nice and all but you should take in count that not all players are eligible to represent, not even in WC. Just not good enough, how can they repay?

To be fair, this tournament is not a big deal in North America while in Europe it is, so it’s not really surprising that it draws much less attention there, not only from fans but obviously players.

Btw. I also like Anže, but it’s also truth that even he didn’t take part 4 times when he was available. In comparison to North American players he is obviously very loyal but what I mean is, it’s way more comparable with another European players.

With the depth of Canada I can assume that many top players do not feel any personal responsibility to man up. the team will shape out to be a contender at any rate. Ovechkin, as an example, on the other hand knows that he is needed on the Russian team.

Kopitar hadnt played for Slovenia since 2015 and he hasnt played in the D1A tournament side since 2007.

Marchessault and Theodore are terrific adds. The forward core looks decent, that blueline looks kinda worrying, but the goaltending is the best weve had in a long time at this tournament. Still dont understand why they never invite Huberdeau.. this is still a medal contender albeit not a strong one compared to the last few years.
