This honestly made my day :D Meanwhile team Finland has been training with complete team like 3 weeks already.

everyone's well aware of Hockey Canada's lackadaisical approach to this tournament. The fact that Canada is competitive and wins gold medals is a testament to either the true awesomeness of Canadian hockey players or to the fact that the level of competition at this particular tournament is so crappy, or perhaps a combination of both... but either way, it's a fun way to spend an afternoon while I wait for that evening's main event - NHL playoff action.

Tavares and Stone looks like two parts of a very solid top line. The big thing for the forwards will be if Couturier ends up as the second or third line centre. If he's the second line centre then the team likely ends up with a very mediocre bottom six. If he's the third line centre then the team is pretty good for this level. On defence, I'm happy enough with Chabot already. All things considered I like this group of goaltenders better than any group of Canadian goaltenders at this tournament since 2005.

I am so envious of how pretty much all American players can skate really well compared our roster:
I will provide a basic rating for skating:
A= above average
B=slightly above average
C=average
D=below average
SKATING COMPARISON:

Tyler Bertuzzi (DET) = C Jack Eichel =A
Sean Couturier (PHI) =C Patrick Kane = A
Adam Henrique (ANA)=C Dylan Larkin =A
Anthony Mantha (DET) =B James van Riemsdyk=B
Sam Reinhart (BUF)=D Clayton Keller = A
John Tavares (Isl)=B Alex DeBrincat =A
Mark Stone (Veg)=B Chris Kreider =A
Andreas Athanasiou (Det)=A Frank Vatrano B
Thomas Chabot (OTT)=A Luke Glendening=B
Colin White =B
Quinn Hughes = B
Alec Martinez =B
Ryan Suter =B

SERIOUSLY, why is every single American player can skate so well compared to Canadians players!!! You can barely find an American player in the NHL who cannot skate well or who is below grade B. Yet, we have so many players who are average or below average skaters. Can you imagine if there are more Canadian players can skate as well as the American? There will be more Canadian players in the NHL or at least being considered.

Not sure if srs but you realize almost all Canadian talent has declined invitations right?

McDavid, MacKinnon, Barzal, Athanasiou, Point just off the top of my head are all likely top 10 skaters in the league.

Well, if Hockey Canada just called Stecher last night then we can deduce that, as expected, there have been very many refusals. Looks like one of the lower end editions of Canada this decade, though not the worst. I'm still quite curious about Huberdeau. Rielly would be a big addition too.

??? Tavares Stone
??? ??? Mantha
??? Couturier Reinhart
Athanasiou Henrique Shaw
Bertuzzi

Chabot ???

can canucks fans give a summary of Troy? what does he bring to the team?
I can't remember if I've seen him play.... on paper... his stats are very solid
Good skater, decent first pass out of the zone, active stick and smart defensively. He is pretty small for a defenceman, but he competes hard. He's more of a two-way defenceman despite being small in stature because his shot isn't dangerous.

It’s got the makings of a gold medal contender imo the goaltending looks good and can compensate for what we might end up lacking. If we can get Rielly, Subban, Ellis, Gio to the D core this team can take gold. Also don’t be so scared by the US team, looks good on paper but how many times has Canada has great looking teams on paper only to fall in the QF.

McDavid is injured and Barzal is still playing in playoffs...

Man it's going to be one ****ty team when they have call a guy like stretcher to play
At least try to spell his name properly
Troy has had a very good season in Vancouver.
he was close to make Canada last year and had huge strides this year.
Solid skater, tenacious player, and should surprise a lot of people here if he gets a good shot at playing.

Really don’t care which of Boston/Washington/whoever’s left wins. I’d rather watch and root for Canada B anyway than another all-American playoffs. “Level of competition” is mostly biases and perception than discernible between these levels if you’re a spectator and not the player on the ice.

Also the Russian and American teams would spank some of these PO teams with ease.

higher than you think. middle of the pack as far as RD are concerned.
He wasn't on my wish list of players to play this tournament, but we could do worse. I think he has the skill set to play big ice hockey very well, but if he's anything above a 3rd. pairing...yikes. I'm still hoping and fingers are crossed that a few significant D-men show up here and do not hang young Chabot out to dry. If Canada gets shellacked here and Chabot is the one who has to carry the load, it could very well turn him into a Jarome Iginla when it comes to this tournament...the why should I give a damn if nobody else does attitude. and that would be a shame. Ottawa will most likely miss the post season for much of the next 5 years, and he loves international hockey. He could be the key d-man for this tournament for TC over the next few years. Include him and McDavid on any Team Canada at this tournament and we're instantly gold medal favorites. I don't care who shows up for the other teams.

but in answer to your question, where would he rank? I do keep a ranking of Team Canada A B C and D, 8 d per roster. I sometimes include him on the 4th. team and sometimes not. He has the potential to move up a few teams.

If Canada adds either Matt Benning or Kris Russel it would be fun see the response. I put Troy Stecherin the same catagory as them. Canada may only beat Great Britain and France this time around

I would agree with that. any more Stechers of the world join the team and are top 4 d-men, then yes, we are most likely royally screwed. It won't be pretty.

but I'm still entertaining visions of a V Dunn C Parayko 3rd. pairing Go Dallas.
and if only Gio, Brodie, Rielly, Ellis would get off the crapper, then we'd be in good enough shape. I'd be confident that we would have the makings of a team that could compete for a gold medal.

I wonder if the Islanders get knocked out will any of them rush to help out their former captain? I think Trotz did a bang up job this year using J.T.'s departure the key in motivating his players this year. masterful job he's done. But there are 4-6 Islanders players I'd like to see join should they bow out here in the next week.

Just realized this could have been the only chance for McDavid and Crosby to play together as teammates in a high stakes (relatively speaking - this isn't the Olympics) tournament, ever, while both still near top shape.

Kind of sucks neither/nor will make it.
