Looks like Tampa is going to take an early bounce out of the playoffs. Maybe Stamkos and Point get invitations?

Point needs a contract. And I dont think Stamkos would want to play in Slovakia after getting swept.

Ah yes that Point contract. Tampa fans will be stressing over that. Who knows maybe Stamkos will want to feel better about himself in Slovakia after that disappointing post season. I doubt it though. Gonna be a tough off season for our guys. All year Stamkos especially talked about how it is cup or bust.

Damn! Point is up for contract negotiations as well? That sucks. Yeah, not counting on Stamkos answering the call. I'll take Gourde and Joseph to play on the 4th. line. a big fat no to Alex Killorn. He played the tournament a few years back and was a major disappointment. I thought he would be at least halfway decent on international ice, but as it turned out, he wasn't even that.

I doubt that Canada would invite Stamkos. No one has been able to find him in over a week.

I'm going to experience my very first NHL-like games and of course everyone is turning down the invites and McDavid is injured
Patrick Kane is in for the Americans + a few others. you may want to check them out. It looks as though they'll have a real legit gold medal contending team this year.

I was sure this was coming! From a Wings perspective, I am now pumped to really follow team Canada and the tournament. With all the declining going on, it looks like all 3 will probably play significant roles for Canada. This is a good opportunity for them to showcase their skills to the rest of the hockey world. AA needs more recognition, and he is about to get it.
I'm excited for everyone to see how good Bertuzzi really is. He'll be a favorite for sure. And be prepared to say "wow" a lot with how many breakaways Athanasiou gets.
I think it will be a coming out party for AA.. too bad McDavid was hurt I would love to see those guys skate with each other, no one would be able to touch them.

Another wow game from MacKinnon. looks as though he's on track to play heading into May... which means my dream line of Marchand Sid Nate isn't going to happen this year. I'd prefer to see Nate go on a deep playoff run, but it sucks he's laying waste to the Flames in the process. can't count on any Canadians from that team ever answering the call. The Iginla tradition still burns brightly in Calgary. Iggy taught the boys well.

He's definitely not going due to his leg. We don't know if he would be going if he were healthy.

stop opining on players' particular motivation for accepting invites. We simply do not know. Maybe Crosby's parents/girlfriend have always dreamed about a free trip to Slovakia with Hockey Canada paying the bills. We simply do not know.
And for high performance athletes, it's not about winning gold, it's about competing for one. Maybe 2015 was such a positive experience, he'd like to be part of it again.
I got a strange feeling that Crosby might show up to this one. Think about Kane for example. For years the Blackhawks made long runs in the playoffs and Kane had no chance to represent the U.S. and now after back to back non playoff years, he has accepted the invitation. If Crosby loses tonight this would have to be the earliest exit he has had in quite sometime and may want to captain what looks like a young Canadian team this year. Sounds like Kane really enjoyed leading the U.S team last year that was very very young.

If McDavid was going it would have been a good opportunity to possibly see Crosby and McDavid play together for the first time, thanks to the NHL's stupidity at the joke 2016 World Cup. I still remember the stupid posts noting that it was alright not to see Crosby and McDavid on the same team because there would be plenty of opportunity in the future, and that it was incredible to see McDavid and Eichel on the same team. Those have aged predictably. I think it may have even incentivized Crosby to participate, but obviously that isn't happening. I would like to see Crosby go as a sort of mentor for some of Canada's top young players, but if the top young players aren't there then I don't really care if Crosby goes.

Let's hope that TC is able to invite players who are both fast and creative. They will be more effective on the big ice than NHL players with the same points or more who are not as quick and creative.

I'm hoping Sid goes.
One thing i do know is him and his gal love travelling Europe and hit a bunch of spots over there last summer. If he's healthy and they're planning on another Summer Euro tour, i can easily see him starting things off with a free trip and some hockey in Slovakia.

I hope so. I remember thinking in 2015 when Sid called late and said he wanted to be part of it that it would change the equation for players going forward and more star players would be open to taking part. In the 3 years since ('16-'17 and '18) the teams have gotten worse... and this year? The jury is still out, but it looks bleak so far.
and yes I know, in '16 we went back-to-back gold, but it wasn't as good a team as 2015 was. for whatever reason. that was 1 in a 100 year storm.
