Generally when Canada or the U S. makes surprise selections (like Crotty) they have a strong reason.
A player they know they have zero chance of taking but is pretty good defensively, and can then ignore but use to assess the quality of the forwards?

I meant that to be sarcastic but it actually made more and more sense as I was typing it out. Seems like an intelligent thing to do in a year when you already have a large portion of the team (especially the dmen) as locks.

Total of 23, 19 year old's....that's a lot.

Weird F selections for the camp: Anderson-Dolan, Entwistle, Ratcliffe.
Weird D selections for the camp : Crotty, Phillips

Looks like a well balanced deep team to me, im a big Lavoie fan he just always seems to be around the net and scoring whenever I watch. Glad he got the invite i think he could flourish as a trigger man for an elite play maker.

Pierre-Olivier Joseph ARI Evan Bouchard EDM
Jared McIsaac DET Josh Brook MTL
Ian Mitchell CHI

Forwards

NOTES:
Dellandrea spot will be between him, Entwistle and Studnicka.
Some Centers will have to play wing.
JAD will make the team if he’s healthy. No idea who he knocks out, maybe Foudy or Laf .
I see all 4 of my Centers making it along with Suzuki and Frost.

This is a REALLY strong roster.

That's certainly a possibility I suppose. I've just seen it too many times before though. Hockey confederations overthink things and go outside the box.

Kinda shocked JAD is being invited considering his wrist surgery from November 5th had him missing 6-8 weeks

That pretty well tells it
Shouldn’t be a whole lot of changes from this team

Jett Woo will make the team. He leads all 99 born WHL players in +/-

Congrats on his +/- the most useless stat. Especially in juniors where the league parity is awful.

Ty Dellandrea must have 0% chance of making the team since his +/- is dog shit.

This is what I’d send, if every player invited to camp is healthy and able to play... a lot can change but this is the lineup I would send.

Comtois- Glass- Suzuki
Formenton- Anderson-Dolan- Vilardi
Lafreniere- Hayton- Leason
Frost- Veleno-Dellandrea
Tippett

Foudy was the name I kept going back and forth on... if JAD/Vilardi are unavailable then this is the guy I think would slide in.

Smith- Bouchard
Joseph- Dobson
McIsaac- Brook
Mitchell

The biggest question mark for me, is McIsaac vs Beaudin... McIsaac brings a different element to the team that Beaudin can’t, so I give him the edge. Whoever doesn’t get the nod on the left side would be battling with Mitchell for the 7th D spot but I think Mitchell ultimately would get it.

DiPietro
Scott
Villalta

DiPietro enters camp as the favourite, Scott is the 2nd guy. It’ll be a battle for who gets the reins once the medal round starts but as of now, DiPietro has the edge and Scott is nipping at his heels.

I’d imagine Smith-Bouchard will be the top pairing, Smith can play on his off side.

Didn’t think Merkley was going to make the team but to not even get an invite despite leading OHL dmen in scoring as an 18 year old is surprising
I've seen him a few times this year and he's taken at least 1 bad, very unnecessary and easily avoidable penalty in pretty just about all of those games, combined with fairly lazy defensive play too often. It's too bad, the kid has a ton of skill, maybe he'll get it together for next year but I'm not holding my breath.

Ratcliffe is a giant who can skate well, has a very good shot and nose for the net. Can be physical as well but that's a little less consistent. Having seen him a bunch this year and last I'm not too surprised by that.

I was somewhat surprised by TSN's locks and frontrunners for the team.

Goalie: DiPietro, Scott

Left Defence: None

Right Defence: Bouchard, Dobson, Mitchell

Left Wing: Comtois, Formenton

Centre: Glass, Suzuki, Hayton

Right Wing: Vilardi, Tippett, Leason

The forwards all make sense, but I am surprised that Mitchell is listed (pleased about this) and that Smith is not listed. Suzuki listed as a centre is kind of surprising but that may be semantics. No one is more accurate than McKenzie on Hockey Canada matters so this is probably pretty close. If it's Button's opinion then I wouldn't put it above the opinion of the typical poster in this thread.

Ty Smith is a LHD so no need to if hes playing with Bouch

Right I don’t know why I thought he was a righty.

Even better, I think Smith plays the type of game that will mesh well with Bouchard. Both have elite hockey IQ and complimentary skills.

Pretty shocked to not see Brook listed, he should be a lock on D for multiple reasons
