I will guess Steenbergen will end up being the odd man out for the next one

Appears to be that way as he's currently in Raddysh's spot on the second line.

The Steel-Kyrou line was pretty quiet against the Czech, I expect them to look better tomorrow with Dube on that line.

Every time I've seen Steenbergen he's been pretty quiet. I'm sure he's going to get it going at some point. All those goals with Swift Current must come from somewhere!

Are you sure you're thinking of the right guy? Even as a 17 YO, Ellis was better than a point-per-game and it went up substantially from there.

Are you thinking of Ryan Murphy?
There it is. That makes more sense. But even Ryan Murphy isnt in contention for "worst ever"

Agreed. Not to mention this tournament has a long history and a good portion of it before people started actually watching it. Prior to 1982, Canada just sent the Memorial Cup winner with a couple of key pick-ups. So who was the worst defenseman on the worst of those club teams? Somewhere there's a guy that's the answer to a trivia question for all the wrong reasons!

People saying bean the worst jr dman ever? Definitely not. There has been way worse. Ryan Ellis was atrocious when he played one

This is one of the worst statements I have ever seen on this site. Bean's performance was absolutely one of the worst ever from a Canadian defenceman. Ryan Ellis was very good to great for Canada three different times and is comfortably one of Canada's best defencemen ever at this tournament. Bean was Murphy and Hicketts level bad, possibly even worse. At least Murphy was only a one time representative and Hicketts was used sparingly his first year. We will see what Bean does in this time, but I don't recall any other defenceman being atrocious twice in a row. Perhaps Bean will be much better at this edition of the tournament, and I certainly hope that he is, but I haven't seen much in the build up to indicate that.

The issue is that somewhere seems to be named Aleksi Heponiemi. I haven't watched Swift Current so I don't really know, but I think that's likely

Bean did have the worst two defensive miscues in that Czech game, but also did a lot of good things. He's always been better on the offensive side of the game and being put in a position where he can showcase that part of his game might be better for him. It's also important to remember that last year he had just come off of an injury prior to the event and maybe wasn't up to game speed. However, when we get into the big match-ups with the tourney powerhouses, we'll really see if he has improved any. I'm hoping for the best...

We'll see how he is. He was fine in the offensive zone against the Czech B team, so that's a positive, but he was typically weak against the forecheck and was stickhandled through at least twice. No one was worse defensively, with only Timmins looking weak at all defensively. We will see how he does against top teams.

As for last year, yes he was coming off an injury. The frustrating thing was that he was coming off injury and yet McKenzie talked about how he was viewed almost as a lock, despite weak camp performance. He shouldn't have been on the team last year and he ended up as a liability all tournament. This of course makes it frustrating again this year when he is listed as a lock due to being a returning player, as if a player who returns but was bad the year prior deserves praise for simply having returned. I hope he suddenly improves and plays well but I don't see any reason to expect that.

Kyle Rossiter on the 2000 team was a disaster but for some reason Claude Julien kept putting him out there, often at key times. I think he might have been the worst dman I can recall for the juniors. Any forward with decent speed could turnstile him. IIRC, Gary Green was the commentator for TSN in those days. He never criticized any Team Canada player and still less the coaches. But things got so bad even Gary Green said Rossiter needed to be demoted to a lesser role.

I'm assuming we're talking 2016 Hicketts? I remember him being okay in his limited role in 2015

Very nice call on that one. I forgot about Rossiter specifically and just remembered how bad Julien was. A lot of the time the memorably bad defencemen are exposed due to a coach overusing them, as was the case with Lowry's love affair with Hicketts.
