I thought the majority of the team looked excellent. Steel line had some issues at times but they also were dangerous a lot of the time. The other 3 lines were great. The defense looked great minus Bean, who at least did find the back of the net on a snipe (would feel better if he was a specialist 7th defender). Hart will be a difference maker this tournament.

Dube should help that top line imo.. he brings a lot of drive and energy and should fit in well with Steel and Kyrou.
Not sure if Steenbergen unseats Batherson on the 3rd line though.

I'm not minimizing the Jets wealth of young talent...

I'm only admitting my jealousy of how good I think he can be... 200 ft player and then some...

I wish we had drafted him...
yeah because Vesalainen sucks smh 19 points in 25 games in a mens league

No love for Howden ?

Couldn't watch the whole game as my kid is sick as hell, but from I saw Thomas, Makar, Howden, Batherson, Kyrou, Raddysh and Formenton were my standouts.

Need to see more of Timmins, some things I liked some I didn't.

This team has speed to burn. Impressed by the hockey IQ as well, a lot of complete players there.

Seems like my predictions of a humiliation was right on the money. Sadly I don't think this game did anything to prepare the team for proper opposition.

Let's not project humiliation after Canada lost both games to the USports all stars. It would be better from a Canadian perspective if the Czechs sent their best, but Canada can't control that. The game will be competitive enough to help the players prepare for the tournament and that's sufficient.

Wow 9-0 is something. But as I've learned from the past, these pre-tourney games can be very misleading. Canada is superior for sure but this wouldn't come close to happening in a meaningful game.
The plus for Czechs is, that if they play Canada in the QF this year, they'll have the Big 3. And Canada won't know what hit em. Czechs will win it. #Czechbig3

"Big 3" in this tournament means Sweden, Canada, USA. ;)

I agree Zadina, Chytil, Nečas, but also Hájek and Galvas will bring some remarkable skill and grit to the Czech team. But anyway, this game has shown us that too many Czech players are not able to play at this level at all. That team will need a lot of real grit and a stellar goaltending to make thinks happen at the tournament.

Canada played a great game, very mature and smart for the junior hockey. But the Czech defenders especially gave them really a lot of room to excel. Too many giveaways and broken plays by them.

Odds are the Czechs will play one of Canada, Finland, or the US. Canada proved to the doubters, they can score and they are still dangerous, the Finns have a stacked blue line with a good top 6 forward corp and an above average bottom 6, the US like Canada is dangerous and balanced through their entire lineup and can also score. Could the Czechs medal? Probably, but I don't see them beating any of the teams in group A, let alone Sweden in their own pool, especially on route to a gold medal.

Any word on captains? Clague and McLeod seem like obvious candidates to me. Anyone else?

Sam Steel and Robert Thomas also come to mind but they usually like to give it to a returning player.

I have a feeling it's going to be Dube, He had the C over Steel and Clague in the Super series.

Thx man. From what I saw (late in the 3rd) he sure comes across as a very smart player.
He has been very impressive in the OHL since his rookie debut a few years ago. Good all around player . I’d like to see him on the penalty kill for Canada. He dominates on the PK for the Soo Greyhounds.

It's unlikely yes. But, I will not let 1 meaningless game change my mind about this team.
You also have to remember, that this is the first pre-tourney game Czechs have played. While this is Canada's 4th?
Mix in not having your best 5 guys. That would normally play a combined 90-100 minutes..
It's a recipe for something that happened tonight. Mind you I didn't expect that bad.

Canada and the other 3 are def better. Don't get me wrong. But when it comes to a game that truly matters, anything can happen. Czechs def have the players to surprise. Just wait.
