Don't we always take 3 goalies?

no, not in recent history. The last few times the tournament was in Europe we took 3, but as a general rule HC takes 2, especially when the tournament is in N. America. I bet Hockey Canada changes that rule this year.

No, its a rarity now. Partially due to an agreement with the CHL on player loans (teams were not happy about sending a guy to ride the bench when they have games). Here's a tweet about it.

and when did that become a rule? for years all I heard from the Hockey Canada morons was that 2 goalie rule was just so goalies can come into camp stress free and not have to share a goal with a 3rd. goalie. Their only job was to get in their reps and game ready. Now, all of a sudden there's a Hockey Canada/CHL rule/agreement on 3rd. goalies.

It's hilarious how often Hockey Canada just makes up rules as they go along.

I have no idea, but I just heard of it.

Not an awful forward group by any means, but we lack the one or two headlining players that we can usually bank on. When was the last time we didn't have a single top 10 pick up front?

I wonder about gadjovich. This seems like a fast skating team. Which is a weakness in gadjos game. Not sure how he fits. Also feel a team that might struggle to score prob doesn’t have room for kaspick imo. He’s a luxury this team can’t afford

No. Canada has almost never taken 3 goalies. They did it once, due to Blackwood's OHL suspension that was honored by the IIHF for the 2016 WJC. Before that, you have to go all the way back to 1983, the second year of the "Program Of Excellence" (the processes of selecting the best players instead of just sending the previous season's Memorial Cup winner), when Mario Gosselin, Mike Vernon and Mike Sands all made the squad. Every other year since it's been exactly 2 goalies.

This team lacks forwards but Hockey Canada drove away what would be their #1 C.

Logan Brown played for Canada at the U-17, then for whatever reason was cut from the U-18 Ivan Hlinka Tournament to keep a lot of players that weren’t as good as he was at the time. The player then gets upset obviously, USA Hockey comes calling to see if Brown would be interested in playing at the U18 World Championship and he takes them up on their offer after being rejected by Hockey Canada.

Now does Brown still go play for the USA even if he makes the Hlinka team? Possibly but I really doubt he decides to switch if he makes that team.

He wanted to play for Canada even though he grew up in the states with all his buddies. He would have had to play the U-18 to get locked in but Canada let him go. Why? Who knows...

Mahura, Foote, Ferraro appear to be on blue line bubble...

This is NOT a BIG blue line...the fact they cut Stanley means that Foote has the inside track on mahura and Ferraro as they have enough puck movers...this is what i believe

Did anyone see the games and make an opinion on their play ?

Muhara and Timmins I say cut on d
Timmins has been probably the most consistent D of the bunch. Him being scratched today indicates that he's made the team. If his play continues, this will be a big coming out part for him.

I'd agree that Foote has the inside track especially with Mete now in the fold. Ferraro has slightly outplayed him though so who knows. I don't see Mahura making it barring a star performance today.

The blueline really isn't that small. Timmins, Fabbro and Bean are all larger guys and Clague isn't small either. Makar and Mete would be the only 'undersized' ones, but Foote would definitely provide more of a physical presence than most of these guys.

Ugh this team is worse off than I thought.

Was the Cody Glass cut surprising? What about Logan Stanley?

I don't think any 18 year old (outside of absolute studs) should ever be a surprise cut from a Canadian team as the program seems to always favor 19 year olds whether they are better or not. I would categorize it more as disappointing because on a team that lacks skill and offense up fronts as well as Centers he seemed like he would have been a much needed part of the team.

For Stanley I think big, slow defensemen are always going to be an issue in international hockey even on the smaller ice. He would gets called for things based on his size regardless if there was an actual infraction or not and skating would be a concern because of their tendency to call anything close to contact against the Canadians.
