What nonsense are you going on about? He had 4 shots on goal against the Habs the last time we played them... I guess he should have been nominated for the league MVP after that. Imagine getting that focused on something that meaningless?
The habs?
Oh...now I feel better...thanks

You say you don't understand the hate boner before calling him soft and lazy.

He's 6"5 about 230 pounds and you called him soft and lazy.

You tell me why the hate boner exists.
He said he's soft and lazy "at times", and to be fair, you could say the same about Nylander.

The hate boner comes from 2 shots for in 4 games while being on ice for 34 shots against 5x5.
He is getting caved every night lately.
This is some hard hitting analysis, comparing Engvall's individual shot totals with the entire totals from 5 opposing players. I wonder why his numbers fall short

Not this year you can't, and even if you could Nylander isn't 6"5 about 230 pounds, and Nylander is nearing a 100 point pace, he might even be on it after last night.

Of course we can, we were 10 minutes away last year till the refs got them off their death bed

The team needs to not get complacent though, put our foot on their neck and go for the kill. If we figure that out we’re going to the finals imo

You sure Willie hasn't done any flyby's at all this season?

Anyhow, I'm just saying that IMO Engvall isn't the greatest of players, and at times he looks soft and lazy but all players have moments where they don't look good so I think it makes sense to judge the overall body of work relative to their cap hit. Considering all that, I think Engvall's fine.

If they could swap out Engvall and Kerfoot for some jam, it would look much better. I really don’t think Tampa is that good. It’s wide open this year and I’m not forgetting about Boston. This team can beat anyone if it really decides to

After last season’s 5-0 win in game one… I can’t believe we lost the next 4 of 6.

Yes, we can win this series.

I don't think the Leafs are going to suddenly see better reffing, especially in the elimination games managed by Wes McCauley. Tampa is a darling of the league, and the Leafs are the opposite. Wes in particular has something against Keefe

Will Dekes and Zekes predict a sweep like they did last year?
That didn't age well.

100% they can beat Tampa. Question for me is can they beat themselves?

He has hugely sheltered minutes and they are just getting easier. He is getting caved at a time when the best defenders on the opposing teams have their hands full with 2 great lines that just got better. It should be a walk in the park. It is easy to see who the weak links are.
If you think Engvall is so valuable, who are the 2 weakest links on the team in your estimation?

Kerfoot I see no role for on this team, Holl would be better suited as a bottom pairing D

Soft and lazy but effective is better than a try hard that accomplishes nothing.

Engvall being soft and lazy is what is stopping him from being an elite player. But he is very useful as a 3rd line depth scorer.

Kerfoot is a perfect example of a player who isn’t lazy but gives us very ineffective minutes.

Pretty skeptical of this claim tbh. That doesn't sound like something that folks who value data and probability would do.
It's an outright lie, and even more ridiculous is it's coming from somebody who repeatedly claims to never look at my posts.

It's all on Sammy/Murray, they need to stand on their heads.
Wouldn't hurt if our PP showed up in the playoffs for once.

^^
This. 100% agree with all of it. And to give the obvious answer of course we can beat them. McDonagh and Palat will be missed. We are improved, I would go as far as saying we are the better team this year.

The only thing I hate about it is how much of is exactly the way Bruins are playing. They take regular season as preparation for playoffs. You don't see many off-shifts or lines that are not finishing every check. Their special team are usually top 5. But for me, the difference is being used to this kind of hockey. Our players need to switch physically and mentally. Boston players are therefore as a whole less prone to stupid mistakes compared to a team that is playing a different style of hockey for 82 games. It comes down to repetition vs focusing on playoff hockey which taxes you more mentally.

You can look back at our playoff struggles and point out individual mistakes that cost us each round. You'll find different players so just trade them away for a player that won't make that mistake, no need to look at the issue team-wise...

Re: Bruins

Its a proven method. You practice hard -> you are a thorough pro -> you look after your health -> you look after your physique -> you look after your conditioning -> you look after your strength/skating/shot -> you don't repeat mistakes (especially the big ones) -> it becomes your habit -> translates into most of your games. Its automatic; you don't have to "think too much" or "find" any new gear or whatever because it is part of your habit. There is no "switch" that a team or player can flip on just for the playoffs; it almost never happens (goalies are voodoo thats an exception).

IMHO it starts with taking responsibility by recognizing one's own shortcomings; only then can one turn the page. If one doesn't think they did anything wrong then there is no motivation to change.

Hope they win but with their playoff record I think they'll be a first round casualty again and it will happen quickly in the series. If they make a couple more good moves it could go either way. We aren't seeing "Playoff Tampa" or "Playoff Refs" yet.

We can beat any team in this league. The talent has always been there (well for last 7 years)

It really comes down to Matthews. He has to be our best player game in game out. He has to be the one dictating the pace, the outcome of the game. Dude has the frame and the skill to be a force to reckon with yet he leaves you wanting more

Crosby and Malkin always had that factor. They just dig deep and found through. I have yet to see that from Matthews in a closing game. Where he takes off, dictates

Matthews has to be the key to me
