Can the Panthers make the playoffs with this blueline?

Funny thread. Lots of misconceptions. Can try to clear some up:

1. This is a one year re-tool year due to dead cap. Defense will be addressed prior to next season

2. Forsling is is a very good top pairing defender. Only thing preventing him from being a true number 1 is point totals. He’ll play 26 minutes a night and do it very, very well

3. Montour and Gudas are solid second pairing defenders

4. Ekblad will be back in like 6 weeks

5. Doesn’t matter as much as it would for some teams because the forwards are great defensively and will control possession well

6. The Panthers are 3rd or 4th in the NHL in odds to win the Cup, presidents trophy, and make the playoffs. Tied for first in the East and the division. If anyone really thinks they’re going to miss the playoffs, sportsbooks are offering to take your money at +600 right now. Have at it

Montour is a bottom pairing defensemen I don't think he is going to matter much in the context of my thread
Lmao, what a terrible post in a laughable thread. You clearly haven't watched much of Montour, but it's very clear that your interest lies in trotting out the current lineup with missing context. Ek comes back and some point, Montour is better than Carlsson and Kiersted. Troll's gonna troll I guess.
Zito had so much promise. What an awful summer.
Explain, cause most Panther fans I know have loved this summer.

You refute my post that Montour isn't a top 4 dman by saying he is better than 2 no name AHLers? Sure he is better than them but the problem is that they have 1 top 4 dmen right now. Every single other name here would be on any contenders bottom pairing.

This is why I am saying, I don't really care that have a good record to start because scoring is high in early season and their goalies have played red hot. I think both regress to the mean and they are in serious trouble.

Lmao, man, you just read into things what you want. Some world that must be.

Montour isn’t a bottom pair guy, how’s bout you back that up, the burden of proof doesn’t lie on me.

YOU threw out that lineup asking if we’d make the playoffs with it, when you know that’s not the lineup. It was for one (1) game. Montour is already back, Ek isn’t out till Valentine’s Day, so you’re just talking shit to talk shit.

I would suggest maybe watching some other teams play some hockey in your spare time. Montour would be on your second unit as well lol.

thanks. Lmao, clearly haven't watched him lately

You asked for evidence I give it and this is your response? I mean putting up points on that Panthers roster was not hard for him. He is like a poor mans Tyson Barrie and that should be alarming if you plan on playing him in your top 4 or pairing

So Montour can put up good stats (55% xGF, ~40 points) but it doesn’t count because that’s easy to do because the Panthers are good.

BUT

The Panthers are bad because Brandon Montour is bad

Help me out here. Are the Panthers good enough to carry bad defenders (then the thread makes no sense) or are the defenders not as bad as you’d like them to be (then the thread makes no sense)?

That's not evidence. You haven't watched Montour lately was my initial response, so yeah, that's still my reply.

That blueline is pretty darn bad, but I think the Panthers are good in spite of it.

I've seen it said by some Cats fans, several times, that they'll just fix the problems next off-season. Maybe I'm missing something. I find this to be a peculiar position to take, for a team that was clearly pushing all their chips to the middle of the table last season (Giroux and Chiarot).

I think they'll be a team to watch again this year when the trade deadline rolls around. They parted ways with a number of picks last year, but I assume their management group won't want to waste an opportunity in the post-season on the belief that they'll fix their problems next summer or via free agency. The plan, I would think, is to add a defenseman or two at the TDL. Maybe I'm just misreading the situation.

As a fan of the team that holds their unprotected 1st rounder for 2023- I hope not,
That said the offense/goaltending is enough to carry them to the playoffs, If the lose one of the top forwards too then things get interesting

Yeah you're missing their cap situation. It's super tight now but they have a significant amount of space opening up next summer.
