Can the Panthers make the playoffs with this blueline?

Did he really though? Weegar was playing as an offside defenseman last year with Ekblad. While Forsling and Montour were a 2nd paring on defense. The cap crunch forced the Panthers to use Marc Staal at the league minimum to replace Weegar. And early in the year Staal and Ekblad struggled pretty mightily, which forced the change to put the better skating Forsling with Ekblad, and Staal with Montour. But Montour never stopped producing this year.

He took over PP1 when Ekblad went down and never gave it up it seems. His minutes went from just under 18 last year to 24 this year. Weegar was not a PP contributor on the Panthers last season, amassing a total of 3 points on it... So nobody has answered me, what happened with Montour, to become such a dominant offensive player? Did anyone think he had this kind of potential until he realized it?
Forsling was mostly with Gudas last year and Montour was more often on the 3rd pairing with whoever was playing 6D that night (usually Lucas Carlsson).

With Weegar’s absence this year he’s added 2.5 more minutes per game at 5v5. His 5v5 points per 60 only increased from 1.31 to 1.41 year over year.

He’s always been extremely talented offensively and willing to join the rush. Panthers fans have always wanted him to get more powerplay time as he’s a better puck mover than Ekblad. He has 33 power play points this year compared to 8 last year.

His increase in production is due to an increase in ice time and PP1 time.
