Can the Panthers make the playoffs with this blueline?

Carolina is imploding, I can see Florida getting past them if that ends up being the first round matchup.

On a good day the Panthers defense is very good but the problem is they are really inconsistent. Though they've been clicking recently with Ekblad stepping up and even Staal playing solid.

They definitely made it interesting, very shocking that they locked up a wild card spot before pens or isles could. Panthers played like they really wanted it even with a few stumbles along the way. Penguins definitely didn’t and I bet isles take care of business tonight

Another HockeyVirus hot take L.

Is it really though? I said they were questionable as a playoff team and they barely made it. They went from the best team in the NHL to one of the worst playoff teams.

And the only reason they made the playoffs was because they had Lyon come out of no where and start stealing them games. The D is still very suspect.

I absolutely love that Montreal helped us make the playoffs and worsened their chances at Bedard, this alone will power me through the rest of life.
How did Montreal worsen their chances of Bedard for you? You can only move up 10 spots from the lottery and even if they beat Florida every game this year that wouldn't even get them close to the 3% chance to winning the lottery, since the panthers are currently 11 points ahead of a lottery spot.

Montreal losing to Florida improved their chances of Bedard, because if they won those games it would make them rise in the standings and give them 2.5% less chance to win and an overall likelihood of decreasing their pick by 3.

Sorry, if you can longer power through your life because of me.

Yes. You do this every time when you make a shitty hot take. You try to rationalize the bad take by expanding on it.

Just like the Oilers missing the playoffs. Jay Woodcroft getting fired. The Devils losing ten in a row. Bruins peaking too early. All awful takes, done by the same guy.

At the end of the day, you were wrong. Again. No matter how you try to spin it.

And how boring would this play be without some hot takes?

Can somebody explain Brandon Montour's season? He's tied for 3rd in scoring among NHL defensemen, with 73 points.

His previous high was 37 points last year, and prior to that 32 points in his 2nd season (1st full) with the Ducks in 2017-18.

Last year he was a good 2nd pairing defenseman, with Forsling, but now he's become a true #1.

What happened?

What happened was that he was given Weegar’s role in the team and he stepped up big time when given that chance and minutes. Proving that he’s better than Weegar and that Zito is indeed a gigachad genius GM.

Did he really though? Weegar was playing as an offside defenseman last year with Ekblad. While Forsling and Montour were a 2nd paring on defense. The cap crunch forced the Panthers to use Marc Staal at the league minimum to replace Weegar. And early in the year Staal and Ekblad struggled pretty mightily, which forced the change to put the better skating Forsling with Ekblad, and Staal with Montour. But Montour never stopped producing this year.

He took over PP1 when Ekblad went down and never gave it up it seems. His minutes went from just under 18 last year to 24 this year. Weegar was not a PP contributor on the Panthers last season, amassing a total of 3 points on it... So nobody has answered me, what happened with Montour, to become such a dominant offensive player? Did anyone think he had this kind of potential until he realized it?

Brunette would never switch PP up when they struggled, some could see the potential, and wanted to see Montour get a chance there last year. He took Weegar’s place as in a bigger role, more ice time, more of an opportunity to fill the offensive void left by Weegar. Forsling has some offensive skills (but he focuses on covering for Ekblad when he gets caught ;)).

:sarcasm: I wonder if it partly due to who his D partner has been for most of the year.
