I actually think willy has been a great deal more physical. Sure he's not barreling into the corners to deliver bone shattering hits, but you can be physical in other ways. Nylander is great in board battles and he's a very strong man when in front of the net. You're right in the sense that he'll never be classified as a "physical player" but he's definitely added elements of physicality to his game.
If Matthews and Nylander can find that chemistry from days past 90 is a possibility. I think he'll hit 40 goals. Can he dish enough assists to Matthews to make up the difference? We'll see.
Nylander's physical play is along the boards, taking the puck away from the opposition, not running the opposition with the hopes the puck comes loose.
Along the boards he's one of the Leafs better players at taking away or controlling the puck.
Plays an intelligent game, and sometimes he's off and it's obvious.
I'm guessing he doesn't re-sign with the Leafs without checking out options, but that probably depends on what is offered when he can re-sign prior to being UFA.
