Can Canada realistically go on another 5x Gold Medal Run?

I was just providing the percentages based on the 20 gold medals Canada has, how many of them were won on large ice vs small, not overall tournaments.

It's a moot point though because the argument was that Canada struggles on large ice, it's an irrelevant thing to say because Canada has won on large ice more than anyone else, its odd to use that as some sort of reasoning as to why Canada couldn't pull off such a streak.

Canada struggling on large ice shockingly remains one of the most bizarre myths in international hockey that for seem reason continues to live on, even with all of the countries 27 World Championships and its most recent Olympic Gold coming on large ice, the myth persists.
Yup, whoever referred to Canada as "struggling" abroad had a bad choice of words. Certainly capable, otherwise those previous streaks couldn't happen. That being said, history tells us that Canada's chances of gold in any given tournament are greater on this side of the pond.

If there's one team that can do it - it's Canada. No other team would ever come close to 5 straight, but it's certainly possible with Canada.

We did struggle on big ice until the late 1990s, that's when our players start skating at parity with Europeans. We particularly had issues in the 1980s when the style in North America was slower and more rugged. Today everyone plays the same style pretty much, Canadians are still a bit better to keep the game close to the boards..

Compare Canadas performance in NA
Win/(Win+Lose)
Then compare Canadas performance in Europe
Win/(Win+Lose)

I think you will spot a difference.

Yeah not taking away cred or anything. But if Canada win 5 straight cups it’s because 4 of those cups will be on small ice. But i’m not worried. Sweden A team + home advantage + big ice. We got this in the bag already.
Eh we'll see. Sweden should have a good team next year. Sweden has its "A team" basically every year and has gone 0/6 when hosting the tournament. From cursory glances Sweden and especially look strong for next year. The rosters, coaching, and luck will decide who wins.

I don't think it is likely to reel off 5 in a row this day and age. too many good teams, even with one team (that shall remain nameless - because that is what they deserve out of the tournament and wasting away somewhere) still too many things have to bounce our way in order. see McTavish's miracle play.

I haven't looked too closely yet at Canada's '04s (other than the obvious ones) but I don't think it is a particularly strong group. If the team is half and half 04s and 05s. then I like our odds a little more. But the peeps at Hockey Canada think a little differently.

If we 3-peat. then we can talk about matching the 2 drive for 5 runs.

It takes a lot of luck. From 2005 to 2009, only the 2005 and 2006 teams were thoroughly dominant. 2007 and 2008 saw Canada require overtime and 2009 featured the Eberle goal. It's why these things can not really be projected. At the moment Canada is one game away from having won four in a row, but the team easily could have lost any of the 2020, 2022, and 2023 gold medal games with just one bounce (camera, McTavish swat etc.) going the other way.

Time to enjoy the last win and move on to the next one. I'll consider five wins in a row if Canada gets four, and if they win five it'll be time to consider six.

You did not debunked anything. Its a fact that Canada is having a harder time to get gold on the big ice than they have on small ice in NA. I never said Canada is doing bad on big ice in Europe, just that it will be harder.

Finland, Czechia, Slovakia is the favorites. Russia ofc if they also gets back (which is not likely).
I was thinking Czechs will struggle on big ice. Most our team is playing on small ice these days

You think Czechia and Slovakia are going to be favorites next year?!
Not us. This was our big chance. Slovakia has a great team next year IF Nemec goes.sweden and Finland look stronger. US and Canada will always be favs... exceptional programs.

This tournament had Canada go to OT twice in 3 elimination games.
2 quarters went to OT
One semi went to OT
Both medal games went to ot.

Lots of parity this year

Swiss beat the Finns
Czechs beat Canada
Slovakia beat US

If I'm being honest I kind of hope not, I want a competitive tournament. I'm Canadian but seeing Canada win over and over gets a little boring

Ya, I'm very familiar and happy about the parity this year but IMO this year was the outlier and not the norm. Things are tightening up but to call Slovakia a favorite in any hockey tournament is years and years away.

Anything is possible.

We are 1 close gold Medal game in 2021 away from next year being the chance at a 5 peat. That not a lot of puck luck difference.
