Can Canada realistically go on another 5x Gold Medal Run?

In terms of offensive production it is one of the best Canadian teams ever, 42 gf, 15 ga entire tournament 6-1 record, with the highest scoring player in its history in Bedard, by the numbers its as good as any gold team before it.
That’s the point…

They were “one of the best ever” yet still needed OT to beat a team (that they already lost too before) that was not considered a favorite.

USA looks better than Canada next year. Thinking you win 5 in a row “because we normally are favorites” is just dumb IMO

I'm not thinking we win 5 in a row, I just suggested its possibility. I don't think its dumb, I think there is a real chance of a three-peat at the least.

Maybe.. I mean it's Canada. Any chance you can post this in 2025 after they win 4 in a row? I'd have a much better answer.

I do think the Americans are the best looking team on paper for next year....but that is a year out and being the best on paper doesn't always mean shit and returning or not returning Canada always has a chance. Just a ton of unknown.

Why would they be the best on paper without Hughes, Cooley and Cutter?

Anything is possible, but in my opinion there is too much parody in this era for a run like that. Any one of the top six teams can win any game on a given night. That's just too much stiff competition to go on a five year streak.

They’ll be young next year, but they will have perhaps the core of the strongest Hlinka team ever driving them. X factor could be Misa if he continues on his current trajectory. USA will be strong next year, and losing the best player in Canadian tournament history will hurt

If Canada entered the next three tournaments as a 50% chance to win (which is not even close to realistic):
.5 x .5 x .5 = 12.5%

It's probably not going to happen.

5 in a row again? Id be shocked. 3peat is possible but we'll see. It would have to depend on the strength of the upcoming birth years and those teams.

They could as they’re the favorite or at least top three every single year. But to do it every single year for five straight years is hard lots of good players coming from every year. Especially if the Czechs and Slovaks start putting together some good teams like they did this tournament. I hope this happens, the more competitive teams, the better international hockey is. Even if it means my team win gold less often it makes the sport so much more entertaining which is kind of the point.

I’d bet against them doing 5 straight

Thank God for Austria and Germany.

Yeah and that doesn’t matter.

This was supposed to be one of the “best Canadian teams ever” and they split with the Czechs (at Home).OT in the gold medal game could have gone either way too.

You asked the question, and I answered.
Your posts sound bitter. Tonight didn't go as you hoped?

Nope....very very unlikely....there is simply to much parity now......and in a short tourney like this, about 5 or 6 different teams can win....

Canada's 2005 - 2009 run required a LOT of things going right - including Canada producing a ton of HIGH quality talent in 5 years. There were also bounces that went our way, calls that went our way, etc. It's hard to duplicate that for 5 years straight.

Will we see it, again? I doubt it.

We have won 4 of the last 6 Golds and we have a TON of HIGH END talent coming down the pike in the 2023 draft. Let's just enjoy that and not worry about duplicating a 5 year run.
