Can Canada realistically go on another 5x Gold Medal Run?

Canada's 2005 - 2009 run required a LOT of things going right - including Canada producing a ton of HIGH quality in 5 years. There were also bounces that went our way, calls that went our way, etc. It's hard to duplicate that for 5 years straight.

Will we see it, again? I doubt it.

We have won 4 of the last 6 Golds and we have a TON of HIGH END talent coming down the pike in the 2023 draft. Let's just enjoy it while we can.
Wish we could’ve seen Michkov here :(

Nobody said they weren't good, just that having 2 doormats in the division doesn't exactly hurt the goal total numbers. Germany got slaughtered by 2 other teams and Austria is Austria.
But they are teams that qualified for the tournament though, they're good enough to participate. It's disrespectful to just disregard Germany and Austria as if goals scored on them don't matter lol

Don't worry about posters trying to spoil the party. Just enjoy the win and the greatest you saw in Bedard over the last 2 weeks. It doesn't come around very often.

It seems like Canada can produce forwards like nobody’s business. But defence and goaltending hasn’t been nearly as dominant as it was historically.

Yes. But it will be harder, becuse its big ice in Europe.
Canada has won a good amount of its World Junior golds in Europe though..

Of its 20 World Junior Golds, Canada won 1985, 1988, 1990, 1993, 1994, 1997, 2007, 2008, 2020 in Europe.

Canada has also won all 27 of its WC golds in Europe.

Debunked.
You did not debunked anything. Its a fact that Canada is having a harder time to get gold on the big ice than they have on small ice in NA. I never said Canada is doing bad on big ice in Europe, just that it will be harder.

Finland, Czechia, Slovakia is the favorites. Russia ofc if they also gets back (which is not likely).

They’ve been able to produce one stud goaltender each World Juniors for a while now

If Bedard has a clause in his NHL deal to let him play the WJC as an 18 and 19-year-old, then yeah they are likely guaranteed champs.

Otherwise, very unlikely they win 2 of the next 3, especially if Russia is brought back into the fold down the line.

Everything goes in cycles. In the 90's, we couldn't produce forwards.

With Korchinski as the only guy returning?

Yes, that tends to happen with Canada in every tournament.

Lowkey this roster (minus Bedard of course) might be stronger 1-23 than this year's team:

Cristall-Fantilli-Savoie
Benson-Beck-Firkus
Barlow-Geekie-Dumais
Howe-Goyette-Wood
Danielson Yager

Korchinski-Nelson
Mateychuk-Luneau
Pickering-Dragicevic
Allen

Ratzlaff
Bjarnason

I'd take that D and G over '23, and then you have a really smart group of forwards who better fit a lockdown style of play than those chosen this year.

Years ago, someone posted that he wouldn't want to be a Canadian hockey fan because we're always either looking back at losses or hoping to win the next tournament. He said Canadian hockey fans NEVER enjoy THE MOMENT.

There's a LOT of truth to that.

Let's just enjoy tonight's win.

Don't think this is something anyone will do anymore. Teams can barely do a back-to-back anymore.

If Canada won the 2021 final, Canada is looking at potentially 4 straight right now.

They will always field a competitive team, but next year will be their toughest test. Other countries have strong 2023 draftees that should return to the tournament, while Bedard will graduate. Still should have plenty of talent, including Fantilli (maybe).

I can't wait to see Misa and Roobroeck in this tournament in later years.

Yeah, I didn't say it can't happen...but I just don't think it will.

The difference between the previous two runs and the game today is that the US, Sweden, and Finland are much closer (Russia still bery good when they're allowed to play, and even the Czechs and Slovaks are improving again). An opponent as deeply talented from top to bottom as that 2020 American team didn't exist in the previous two 5x runs.

That’s the point…

They were “one of the best ever” yet still needed OT to beat a team (that they already lost too before) that was not considered a favorite.

USA looks better than Canada next year. Thinking you win 5 in a row “because we normally are favorites” is just dumb IMO
Canada is always good, and to write them off as not good enough to be gold medal winners when they have 100000 gold medals already is foolish.

It’s very small i’d say. Even if you gave Canada a 50 % chance to win a WJC the odds would be stacked against them 0.5^2=0.125=12.5 %. It’s gonna be a lot tougher winning in Europe. We play big ice. Sweden bring their A team. Stop dreaming.
