You look at Canada's first golden run in the 90's :

1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997

You look at Canada's second golden run in the 00's :

2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009.

You look at how many people said it could never be done again because of the parity and everyone else catching up, but when you also look at Canada's recent impressive run of success the question needs to be asked :

2015, 2018, 2020, 2022, 2023...

Can Canada realistically do it again? Gothenburg 2024 Canada will go for the three-peat.

No one on the planet could answer this. Who's going to be on Team Canada, USA, Sweden etc in 2026? That would be guessing based on every countries 13-16 year olds.

We need consistent goaltending to bail us out when the roster isn’t up to the task.

Doesn’t look promising.

I said 4 was possible after we won 2020. Unfortunately, 2021 did NOT go our way - we were close.

For us to win next year, we will need a bunch of 18 years olds to play like 19 years olds. Given how great the 18 years are, it's possible.

Next year will be tough. A very weak 2022 draft group for Canada and the only returning player will be Beck (maybe Fantilli).
Kevin Korchinski, too. Wright is only 18 - well, 19, today. :)

Most of these players will probably be on nhl teams by next season.

let’s be honest they are a favourite every year but I doubt they do 5 in a row again. Too many strong teams.

The 2023s are more than good enough and they won Hlinka + maybe we have Bedard replacement in Misa

An healthy Savoie, Geekie, Beck, Yager, Benson, Crystall, Ritchie, Wood, Barlow, Maybe Fantilli <== looks like a team with some potential.

Maybe we bring Celebrini.

Allen, Dragicevic, etc. arriving at D.

Interesting stories will be D'Aigle and Misa, they have the U18 and Hlinka coming for them. Might be too early, but they will be in the 2025 tournament.

No.

Don’t even think they win it next year tbh.If Russia is in the WJC this year I don’t think they win it either..

Perhaps but not with that dogpoop defense.
My god it was atrocious this year.
This. So much this. It generally makes the WJC less entertaining to not have teams play robotically perfect defence. I wish it were inured in then from the very minor levels so it would be chess-like in these matches.

That said, Canada can do it and even more so if they keep playing on Canadian soil. If they play in USA or Europe it might get dicier.

Canada doesn't need returning players to be considered favourites though.
Yeah and that doesn’t matter.

This was supposed to be one of the “best Canadian teams ever” and they split with the Czechs (at Home).OT in the gold medal game could have gone either way too.

You asked the question, and I answered.

In terms of offensive production it is one of the best Canadian teams ever, 42 gf, 15 ga entire tournament 6-1 record, with the highest scoring player in its history in Bedard, by the numbers its as good as any gold team before it.

I do think the Americans are the best looking team on paper for next year....but that is a year out and being the best on paper doesn't always mean shit and returning or not returning Canada always has a chance. Just a ton of unknown.
