I really hope they take their foot off the pedal a little bit down the stretch. Avoid trying to chase a great seasonal record. Honestly, they seem pretty smart and well run. I would expect to see a reduction of minutes for their core. But like anything, it will come to down to health. They will have to go through Toronto or Tampa, going to be some physical hockey for sure.

I'd be totally for Bergeron walking away with another cup, that core should have at least 1 more.

There is a lot to it, lot more than looking scary and historical during the regular season. Certain Wings and Bolts squads/runs come to mind.

Absolutely! It's quite rare when the Presidents' Trophy winner also adds the Stanley Cup in the same season.

Neither Ullmark nor Swayman have ever won a series, so, yea, it is very much within reason that Boston goes out in Rd1.

This is true, Swayman won one game without McAvoy and Lindholm dressing so
in short sample sizes crazy things can happen.

Lol, they're not winning the Cup OP. A lot of fluke wins like how the Panthers got that ridiculous record last year. But the main reason they're not winning the Cup is because they're going to win the President's Trophy. Tampa losing to Columbus, shame on you, another 60+ win team potentially losing like Bruins, shame on me. Not taking them in my bracket.

Lol, TB went into the Columbus series with Hedman concussed and shutdown after 2 Games and Stralman also injured. In addition that Columbus team was underrated.

Panarin, Atkinson, Anderson, Foligno were good wingers. Duchene, Dubois and Jenner
weren't trash by any means down the middle. Jones-Werenski-Savard on D weren't
slouches. Gave Boston a run for its money up 2-1.

Literally everything has gone right for them this season, that can easily change in the playoffs against a good team.

Their underlying numbers aren’t otherworldly or anything(still solid).

I predict the Bruins to lose in the 2nd round versus either Toronto or Tampa Bay.

Regular season dominance really means nothing.

I can post 5-10 better teams on paper that dominated the regular season, only to lose in the playoffs far short of winning the Stanley Cup.

Look at the 1971 Bruins, 1986 Oilers, 1993 Penguins, 1996 Red Wings, and 2019 Lightning for some examples.

I just am not sure they can win games consistently against elite teams unless they completely outplay their opponents.

For example, they have much of the same key roster components as 2018 and 2019. Yet Toronto took them to 7 games each year despite Boston severely outplaying them. Toronto had the game-breakers though, and that allowed them to win games they shouldn't have won. And Toronto is better now than they were.

They don't have the game-breakers that Toronto and Tampa Bay have. Players that can change the game on 1-2 shots.

Pastrnak is a game-breaking talent. But after him, they lack the firepower of Toronto or Tampa Bay.

Perhaps their depth can grind out victories? We will see.

I would love to be wrong, because if Toronto beats them and goes on to win the Stanley Cup, then that is something that could turn a lot of fans againstS ever watching hockey again.

I mean I am aware of the record, but in what ways are they significantly different from last year's team?
A few things.
New coach sparked them and brought a fresh voice but... the roster is better.

The addition of Lindholm has been massive, The team suddenly has two #1 d and spreads it out.
Krejci returned and looks every bit as good as he did so they added an excellent 2C
Trading for Zacha so they added a solid 2nd line winger.
on top of that
DeBrusk is back to playing like a top-line winger
Foligno is healthy and playing like the player they thought they'd signed
Frederic took a step up.
Clifton took a step up.
Ullmark is playing great and much more comfortable.
Pastrnak is a year removed from tragedy and playing all-world.

It's all allowed them to slot guys down the roster and create mismatches like having Hall and Coyle on the 3rd line, Pasta on the 2nd, Foligno on the 4th, Lindholm 2nd pairing, Swayman as back-up.

It's a deeper roster than last year.

The Bruins are on pace for one of the best seasons in history. Now they just added Orlov and Hathaway. As far as roster construction goes, they have literally no flaws. This may be the last year of their captain and the players have clearly rallied around that.

Sometimes the best team doesn't always win, but I ask does anyone see this Bruins team losing in the playoffs?
Yes in a word, the field is still the easy pick here.

Having said that the Bruins are the favorites in the east for me.

The top 6 in The East are very very good. And there will probably be more additions still this week. Any of those teams can make it through with The Bruins being the favourite but it's going to be a tough road. They'd all be favourites in The West.

Biggest advantage is that IMO there's a drop-off after those 6 to the 5-6 teams battling for a WC and an easier time getting to the 2nd round. Hard for me to think that any of those teams can win 4 out of 7 against Boston.

Biggest concern is that they haven't had much to play for since the ASG. Home ice advantage in the ECF in case they meet Carolina has been essentially it. No one else can catch them. Not a big deal yet but another month or two of mostly meaningless games and it might be hard for them to ramp up the intensity come playoff time.

I think the bruins have too much leadership and work ethic to not ramp it up but the team they face in the first round will be a huge underdog with zero expectations and sometimes an upset happens.

For me the second and 3rd round in the east will be a battle.

Boston doesn’t have the clutch gene after 2011 (Tim Thomas saved them). See game 6 2013 SCF, game 2014 ECF, 2019 game 7 SCF.

Boston are the heavy favorites to win the Cup. Now that Kane looks like he is joining the NYR…it will be a real dog fight between them to see who comes out of the East. That will be a crazy ECF.

Carolina still has that ability to beat Boston and that hasn't changed. If they add Meier after adding Burns they have everything they need to go all the way.

If Toronto can defeat Tampa Bay they are going to be on a high and the pressure off.
If Tampa turns it up like they always do, they have Boston's number in the playoffs.
If the Rangers can beat NJ, they have Carolina's number and can beat Boston with their scoring and goaltending.

Then, the current Champs with a rested Landeskog, healthy roster and an easier path to the Finals could trounce anyone in a series.
