As a Bruins fan I'd bet the field If I had to bet, but I like the Bruins chances a lot.
Great goaltending albeit...not playoff testedI mean I am aware of the record, but in what ways are they significantly different from last year's team?
Neither Ullmark nor Swayman have ever won a series, so, yea, it is very much within reason that Boston goes out in Rd1.
Lol, they're not winning the Cup OP. A lot of fluke wins like how the Panthers got that ridiculous record last year. But the main reason they're not winning the Cup is because they're going to win the President's Trophy. Tampa losing to Columbus, shame on you, another 60+ win team potentially losing like Bruins, shame on me. Not taking them in my bracket.
I predict the Bruins to lose in the 2nd round versus either Toronto or Tampa Bay.
Regular season dominance really means nothing.
I can post 5-10 better teams on paper that dominated the regular season, only to lose in the playoffs far short of winning the Stanley Cup.
Look at the 1971 Bruins, 1986 Oilers, 1993 Penguins, 1996 Red Wings, and 2019 Lightning for some examples.
I just am not sure they can win games consistently against elite teams unless they completely outplay their opponents.
For example, they have much of the same key roster components as 2018 and 2019. Yet Toronto took them to 7 games each year despite Boston severely outplaying them. Toronto had the game-breakers though, and that allowed them to win games they shouldn't have won. And Toronto is better now than they were.
They don't have the game-breakers that Toronto and Tampa Bay have. Players that can change the game on 1-2 shots.
Pastrnak is a game-breaking talent. But after him, they lack the firepower of Toronto or Tampa Bay.
Perhaps their depth can grind out victories? We will see.
I would love to be wrong, because if Toronto beats them and goes on to win the Stanley Cup, then that is something that could turn a lot of fans againstS ever watching hockey again.
A few things.I mean I am aware of the record, but in what ways are they significantly different from last year's team?
Yes in a word, the field is still the easy pick here. The Bruins are on pace for one of the best seasons in history. Now they just added Orlov and Hathaway. As far as roster construction goes, they have literally no flaws. This may be the last year of their captain and the players have clearly rallied around that.
Sometimes the best team doesn't always win, but I ask does anyone see this Bruins team losing in the playoffs?
I think the bruins have too much leadership and work ethic to not ramp it up but the team they face in the first round will be a huge underdog with zero expectations and sometimes an upset happens. The top 6 in The East are very very good. And there will probably be more additions still this week. Any of those teams can make it through with The Bruins being the favourite but it's going to be a tough road. They'd all be favourites in The West.
Biggest advantage is that IMO there's a drop-off after those 6 to the 5-6 teams battling for a WC and an easier time getting to the 2nd round. Hard for me to think that any of those teams can win 4 out of 7 against Boston.
Biggest concern is that they haven't had much to play for since the ASG. Home ice advantage in the ECF in case they meet Carolina has been essentially it. No one else can catch them. Not a big deal yet but another month or two of mostly meaningless games and it might be hard for them to ramp up the intensity come playoff time.
