Post-Game Talk: Campbell plays, Leafs win

Kind of worried about Nylander and Tavares
They aren’t getting anything going we’ve tried Galchenyuk, Thornton, Hyman, Kerfoot and nothing’s worked. They really need to step cuz they aren’t providing anything as a second line

nylander 36- 13-13-26
Tavares 36 - 10-18-28

They really need to pick it up, but it’s already been over half the season and they haven’t so I don’t have high hopes:(

Just for context.

90 players skate on a number 1 line. Tavares and Nylander both top 60 scoring skating on 2nd line is really not that bad.

Yes, they need to produce a little more, but if they continue to carry the play and not be on the ice for goals against, it's a big plus for the Leafs

This is one issue they need to get on track. An extra goal every second game is the difference between an early exit or the Cup.

They should watch early video from this season. They are not getting good looks and Simmonds is hugging the opposite goal post if my memory is correct. May still have to do with his lingering wrist.

Regardless, special teams are huge. I hope they are firing on all cylinders down the stretch.

They are having a ton of trouble just getting across the blueline on the PP. Have you noticed how slowly they are skating up the ice and on entry, and how much the guys are stacking up at the blue line waiting for the puck to cross the line? Earlier this year everything was flowing, the puck was moving. I think they need to work on more aggressive skating and picking up the pace - that will put pressure on the defence instead of letting the defence always be set up and prepared. Rielly in particular has been struggling and looks extremely tentative.

Jets fans didn't take the loss too well:

If you want some good news, the Leafs are basically in the second year of their three-year window. This season and next season are their all-in years.

Gotta figure the chances of them bringing Hyman back are extremely slim. Leaf fans insist he'll be back, but something has got to give. They don't have the cap space. Some dumb GM will give him the Brandon Tanev contract. After next year Rielly's contract is up and they'll have trouble giving him a raise due to poor salary allocation. He's almost certainly gone, or they'll lose a player of value to keep him. Their best bet is dumping Kerfoot. Matthews leaves in free agency two years after that and they'll likely have to start to rebuild — will be tough on them though with Tavares's albatross.

The Jets meanwhile have built their team and used their cap space to be contenders for a much longer time.

how come media never criticizes how bad the jet defence corp is? they complained how dubas spend too much money on the forwards and "forgot to build a good defence" and yet jets did the same thing....

Also their system is really bad, like real bad ..they rank 30th in XGF

bad system + crappy defence corp= potential cup contender according the media somehow...

Once they get 5 more NHL defensemen the rest of the league is in danger.

This is erotic fan fiction for them.

They were the best line way back on Saturday.

All I get from that is they are compartmentalizing that we are better now with the hope that they will be better in 3 years. Those are baby steps for Jet fans.

Yup. What’s really sad is a baby step for a Jets fan is a giant leap for an Oiler fan.

Might be a dumb question but shouldn't his GAA be 1?
I think those numbers might be wrong I quoted from Twitter.

Apparently his GAA, should be 1.41 after this game.

Need our PP to get going though. The solution isn't to replace Nylander either. Whether it's Keefe or Malhotra doing that, one of them deserves a talking too. It doesn't help you have d man with no shot to keep the defence honest in Rielly.
