As a Pens fan his biggest difference this run has been his composure. In the past he would showboat and celebrate dramatically. I get it, that is his personality. After he scored the goal a minute in last night he celebrated but he was already thinking about the next shift.

I also saw this. Don't get me wrong, I really liked (and still like) how he celebrates. I watched all 49 goals from this season and he had a few awesome celly's, but we saw the same thing last night! He scored, and for two seconds pumped his arm, but then stood upright and just had a neutral look like "let's get back on the Pony" and keep playing. Next.

He has truly emerged as a mature player. I can see it in his eyes. He has a bigger vision now. This probably applies to his life, too. He's not just a hockey player.

I can buy this. Ovechkin has always been coachable in DC. He's also been a partier and somewhat of a free spirit. Since getting married he's seemed to calm down a little outside of Hockey. He seems more focused this run although I don't have any problems with him in past playoffs. He's usually been great. This run is more about the team around him stepping up together.

He is usually rude to all fans and most people that have had the opportunity to meet him in person know this.
I have seen him even be rude to children that try to talk to him.

I respect Ovechkin as a player because he is one of the best players in the NHL but I have no respect for him as a person.

What did he do to you?

Nice try, ’Tuukka from Boston.

His job is to be on the ice not to interact with others. Poor interaction skills with others doesn't make someone rude or a bad person unless he did/said something specific to you. He's also Russian. English isn't his first language and America isn't his home culture. Did you meet any other Caps or Russian players like Kuzy?

I don't buy this. Doesn't Ovi meet with kids before a game and give them jerseys etc.? I also remember a story where he stayed in touch with a kid going through some health issues, brought the kid to the game etc.

After returning from Tampa the other night, at about 2:30 in the morning at the airport, Ovechkin greeted fans, let them look at the Prince of Wales Trophy, and took pictures with some. I am sure he is rude to all fans though.

A lot of this is ridiculous expectations of some people.

Yup this is what I meant in my prior post. I have never heard of Ovi being bad with the fans. Just a bunch of anti-russian bias in the NHL that would make people assume this.

I'm not sure if it's anti-russian bias. But it's definitely bullshit.

I love everything about Overchkin. I think players should have a bit of an edge in their personality. He certainly does, and I love it.

If I didn't know for certain that you know Ovechkin, all of his fans, and most of the people that have met him, I would think you made that up.

You would think a player without post-season success would come out with a bang. Abysmal effort tonight. You are not going to win the cup playing like that and you will be lucky if you play more than 3 more games in these playoffs. Where is the killer instinct? If the cup is all that matters then why not raise your game?

I think Ovy read this

I am very ambivalent to him as a person because of his public support of Putin. Same goes for Malkin, Datsyuk and Kovalchuk, and even more so Fetisov. That said, I've never heard ANYONE complain of how Ovechkin treats his fans or the Washington public in general.

This is complete and utter bull! I live in the dc area, used to be in Ovi’s neighborhood before he moved to the new house. I have bumped into him in the grocery store more than once, I have seen him in restaurants and clubs, I sat next to him at cirque de sole’. He has been nothing but courteous in every interaction.

Can't really hold them accountable for supporting the super popular leader of their country. Although OV starting a Putin fan-club is bit overboard. But we need to understand the context with Russian players and Putin. I don't feel ambivalent about very Russian person who voted/supports Putin. Just as I don't feel ambivalent about every US person who voted/supports Trump. For us westerners supporting Putin seems indefensible but from the POV of people who grew up in Russia it doesn't. Majority of NK people actually love Kim. That's asinine for us but not for them.
