The haters will be on in full force tonight but I liked Wheeler's game tonight. Also didn't allow a single goal on his watch on the PK. Quite an accomplishment considering the state of the PK.

PLD continues to infuriate with that play he does where he skates into the offensive zone with seemingly no plan, gets doubleteamed and loses the puck.

This could be a lottery team. Neither sharks nor the ducks are good.
Odd that you compliment Wheeler, who was invisible, but criticize PLD who was our best forward. The only player less effective than Wheeler was Stastny. M anwhile, Dillon played great but it was a missed hit by him that.led to an early Shark goal, and despite some highlight reel saves Helle seived on at least two goals. Add to that the same passive penalty kill and you have a recipe for disaster.

I think we still need to wait another 8 games to see how in sync the team is. They either start to.ingrain the new systems and start looking very good on the ice ala 17-18 or things are still a mess and you need to look at replacing Maurice.

I'm not panicking yet, the team still has a lot of talent and are learning some new schemes.

17-18 there was a distinct personnel change after the first week or so though...... who is coming into replace our struggling goaltender (ie: Mason). or add some scoring-pop in the top-6 (ie: KC in for Perreault)

chemistry is for sure a thing to account for. but given this fwd group is basically the same guys + same coaching staff year-in year-out i'd have expected a bit better performance the past 2 games.... yes a couple new defenders, did SJS or ANH have new players (or coaches) to integrate too, or are is this something only unique to the Jets.

only 2 games in, so nothing changes as far as season-long projections (i mean, BUF is atop the league), but these 2 games really didn't instill confidence against a couple teams in the midst of rebuilds. Agreed though, 10ish games in then you kind of see what the team really is.

I always give it 10 games.

I have gone to bed at 10:00 the last two game nights so I have only seen the good but either way the NHL season is a marathon for teams and fans. I try to pace myself emotionally early.

All true with regards to the forwards but imo we haven't structured the lines optimally and that is playing role in chemistry and effectiveness.

I'm pretty concerned about our special teams structure and deployment myself. If those get fixed that will make a big difference.

then probably dont have GDTs until game 10.

people are going to comment on the game, and the Jets have looked pretty underwhelming against two pretty bad opponents.

well CSW has been a line for 5 years now. if something that hasn't been structured optimally for years is quite damning. yea they were good in 2017.....eons ago in pro-sports.

ehlers/copp spent a lot of time last year, ehlers/pld too. PP has been poor (again, pretty much main cast of guys).

defense - yes a couple of new guys, and i think defense takes a bit longer for chemistry and whatnot. however, last night's game was not a primarily a defense problem imo.

problems i see with this team

bad helle (g1 notably)
bad special teams
fwds aren't generating much quality

Both can be true. The Jets have looked bad but I think the people in panic mode are reading far too much into it.

When Andrew Cogliano scores on a unscreened wristshot from the circle you can assume you're not going to have a good night.

The team collapsed in the second but again, Hellebuyck gives up 2 goals he shouldn't.

I have to wonder if his bout with Covid/spleen is impacting him. Not a great time for it but if that is the case, you can all but assure yourself that Maurice will be given rope yet again

I'm good with everyone having their own opinion and many of us not fully agreeing. Quite normal indeed.
The big question I have:
Are Jets players being given a solid game plan and instruction but choosing to do their own thing?
Or, are the coaches not implementing a system that is most effective and/or giving individual instruction that is beneficial?
It is time for this coaching staff to show some imagination and "coaching" to get the best out of this group.
I'm confident the wins will come, but I am not confident that we have a top tier team keeping doing what we are doing.
"Insanity" - to expect different results by keeping doing what you are doing.
Have a great Sunday folks. I have yard work to do and getting some good winter boots.

5 years just isn’t true, you could argue 4 but lets forget that during the 18-19 and 19-20 season they played more minutes away from each other than they did with each other.

I think the big change is putting Connor and Ehlers together as 2/3 of the top scoring line. Not sure which centre fits best.

Right now we have tons of zone time but we’re passing it around the perimeter to oblivion and passing it out when we do get to the net.

Also Hellebucyk is fighting it although the goals are on legit scoring chances for the most part. In previous seasons they would have given Brossoit a game out of rotation but not sure they are comfortable enough with Comrie to do the same.

I thought that too but I don't think he fits with Lowry and Copp.

Kinda radical but ideally I'd try something like

Connor - Scheifele - Harkins
Perfetti
- Dubois - Ehlers
Vesalainen - Stastny - Wheeler
Copp - Lowry - Nash

Maurice would have to go though cause he'd never try it so we'd need a different coach

I like this too. I think we're too reluctant to try out hungry youth higher up the lineup.

It hits on my main problem with this team and the way it's being lead: since 2018 there's been some kind of self-righteous entitled attitude from the top of the line-up down. As if they've now proven themselves and the hierarchy is set in stone.

There's not a lot of hunger or drive on this team the way it's currently structured. It's been predecided who 'deserves' the TOI, guys outside of that group get demoted for the slightest infractions, and guys inside that group get away with playing soft hockey and looking for highlight reels while acting hard-done-by when something doesn't go their way. IMO it stinks. Just my hot take. Maybe it's too harsh.

Definitely not writing off the season.. there's plenty of time to put it all together. But we've seen the same issues again and again by this point.

Yes I mean the primary top line in those years. They are 3 vets with lots of experience playing together. Ya 19-20 they were away for the most part with Little's injury.

well its a new day. The Bombers are the best team in the CFL, so, there's that.

My Jets? I dunno. So far I guess I would say I'm not super hopeful after the 1st 2 games. But the 10 game thing is a pretty good mantra. Hopefully they turn this around. Or they tank and get Maurice canned.

You may be on to something regarding impacts of contracting covid. Everyone is unique but I know a couple of folks who had covid last year and while they're currently going about their everyday business, they say that they're still feeling a little "off". It's not long-haul covid but they're definitely not 100% well. And, I don't think that Helly is going to admit that he isn't in perfect health. Just a thought.

I volunteer to drive Paul to the airport.

Can we finally put an end to this mess now?

9 bloody years and this team is still fundamentally broken.

f*** off.
I would honestly pay for a one way ticket to anywhere if he was shipped out right away.

I say- If you wanna say the Jets shit the bed agin, then feel free to say it.

Dont mind the fans who live in Florida calling you chickin little. I hate that even more than my team losing.
