Yup. Imo Maurice should’ve been canned after the team quit against St. Louis in 2019. That’s why it’s puzzling to me to read all these “it’s only been two games” posts.
The bottom line is that (other than a back up goalie) Chevy has loaded the gun for Maurice and his staff. There are no more excuses. Any PK, PP or line-up failings are 100 per cent the responsibility of those behind the bench this year. I'm not going to freak out after two games, but if we aren't comfortably above .500 by the end of November then Maurice (and probably a couple of his assistants) get shown the door.

There are times when this forum is more entertaining than the game its posters are discussing or offering opinions on. This is one of those times.

An observation: On one of the Jets PP opportunities, the lineup for a faceoff in the Sharks' zone was Copp, Lowry, and Ehlers up front with Morrisey and Schmidt on the points.

A question: Is this reasonable player deployment?

Post game comments by Mo were as expected -
Team was way too slow in last 2 periods.
That's what I was seeing as well - and I have no idea why this team took their foot off the gas
I get all the comments based on micro diving into the details - but IMO, this team is a speed based team and won't have a hope if they don't use that speed (combined with their skill).

There was more to it than just speed - but once we slowed down, the D and O separated and made it really difficult to get anything going off the rush or coming back on the back check. Coming out of our zone was really frustrating - I didn't see a lot of outlets for our D. Very unorganized and confusing

Strange game - they almost looked like they have never played together.
Lot's of work to do on getting the lines (w/d pairs) on the same page

It's interesting that we've pushed all in twice now with the same coaching staff. That's extremely unusual in the NHL without getting the end result. Most orgs would have made big changes in that 19 offseason, maybe even the 18 offseason. Our only real change has been hiring Dave Lowry.

Pitt has won twice with an in season coaching change, maybe that will inspire our braintrust.

I agree with this. That was a major inflection point and the org elected to stay with him and yeah I know the defense has t been amazing but I've seen way too much complacency on display by some of our supposed team leaders since.

Anyhow for better or for worse Moe has another 10 to 15 games to see if he can get this team playing the new system and to fix our special teams before management even contemplates moving on from him.

Just a reminder Vasilevskiy let in 6 goals against a bottom feeder Red Wings team with a .769 SV% and lost his first game with a .906 SV%.

Relax ... Helle will be okay. The first goal did go off his shoulder so he did get a piece of it. The second one he did miss play it but hey nobody is perfect.
Buffalo is in 1st place undefeated without their star captain ... what does that mean?
It's a long season I didn't think the Jets would go 82-0 this year ... did you?

If I was behind the bench:
I’d skate the crap out of them and preach team defense.
When Mo took over from Noel, he preached defense with better results.
Too loosy goosy right now for me.
When things are not going well, I’ve always preached work hard, back check with good results.

Well... 81 and 1 (a shoot-out loss).

I have to admit I was really rubbing my eyes, figuratively speaking when I saw that. Ehlers & Morrissey for sure, Copp maybe, but the others?

Honestly we should go back to Morrissey on the point on PP1 and get Wheeler back down low with Conner in the one time spot. You then get JoMo teeing up Conner agai like last year and you have Wheeler feeding Dubois in the slot.

Hopefully Scheifele is better prepared to by the QB this year which should open up some other plays.

I think the nhl other than us have gone to a 4 forwards 1 d look.

Given how good forwards there are for the Jets and how there aren't so many great PP defencemen anymore, that would be quite natural for the Jets also.

On the last season the Jets had the highest percentage of goals scored by forwards of all NHL teams, if I got it right.

Guaranteed 0-10 would do it.

Maurice is here no matter what until wheelers contract is up.. it’s IMO and I’m sticking to it.

There has always been excuses here in Winnipeg and it won’t change this year .

and I’m very optimistic about making the playoffs this year so I’m not trying to troll or be a Debbie downer

I have no idea why Connor is not in that spot to shoot. It’s literally :banghead:
He’s got an elite shot. Maybe not quite the power that Scheif or Ehlers have but it’s arguably more accurate. Especially if he can get in close.

I agree on the KC positioning - but I'd also say he has a better one timer than both Scheif and Ehlers (IMO).
Couldn't tell you who has the harder shot - I'd say they are all close

More likely Mo sending a message - the top 6 were floating out there for most the game - Lowry and Copp were not.

That has been a head-scratcher for sure. Elite finisher who has feasted from there is a potent asset. There must be a set of reasons and a plan but it’s a bit hard to figure at this point.

There is plenty of room for excuses .. things won’t change this year
