He literally left money on the table in his last deal so the team could stay together...

What "words" are you referring to?
Which money did he leave on the table?

He became the highest paid player in Flames history, sat out almost all of training camp, and made sure the qualifying offer on his next contract was $9 million.

It was also the highest cap hit for a 3 year bridge deal for an RFA in NHL history I believe.

It's not like Tkachuk had any leverage in his last contract and he still got the maximum.

His words to the media saying Brady was a true Tkachuk after holding out.

"I'm in the mix. I'm always there," Matthew told Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman in an interview for 31 Thoughts: The Podcast. "It's a family business. Nobody wants to deal with the Tkachuks in this. But we do it by committee.

"Brady might be...he's doing great," Matthew teased, before giving his opinion on the progress of negotiations between Brady and the Senators.

"He might be pulling a classic Tkachuk right now. Dad held out, Matthew held out, and Brady looks like he's on his way right now. So hopefully it can get figured out here. But it's just a lot of fake stuff out there regarding this. They're not too close. So hopefully it gets figured out, but who knows? My dad and I are definitely involved. Brady needs us to help him out with that stuff. He wasn't as cutthroat as we were during it, but he's starting to become more of a Tkachuk the later this goes."

Does that sound like a guy that is going to take a team friendly deal?

His playstyle is over a power forward despite his size. He's a grinder who will battle in the corners and win puck battles. He should be paid like similar players to him in Bjorkstrand and Teravainen
Agreed with pay being similar to those 2. Still disagree on the power forward comment. Power forwards don't spend half the game on their ass.

He could have forced a 5-7 year deal in the 9-11M range like Rants, Connor, or Marner. Thats the money he left on the table.

He very well could be the highest paid 3 year bridge deal but that but he's not the highest cap percentage on that deal. Jeff Carter got more.

You read too much into his sarcasm is you are taking those quotes seriously

Who the hell is going to give Gaudreau 11 milllion? Certainly won't be Calgary.

Unless he wins a Conn Smythe he's under 10 or gone.
Did Panarin win the Conn SMythe? or the Art?

If it ain't CGY, another GM will

Tell Monahan to take a Kucherov vacation

Give Lucic an off ice position
Monahans career is basically over because of injuries anyways. I'm just not sure he comes back and becomes an issue at all.

I also think Tkachuk is much more likely to milk the bag than Gaudreau so it will be interesting to see, and that Mangi going cold for the last 2/3rds of the season is tanking any chance of a long deal.

Would this be possible at all ?
My Devils need a goalie and if they took Lucic would the Flames consider trading Vladar ? I really like his game . So Devils get Vladar and Lucic for ??? Picks, prospects or a roster player ?
With Wolf playing so well maybe the can afford to move Vladar or is Wolf still another season away from backing up Matkstrom?

Yes Mags is I guess what you could call power forward , but when I think of a power forward I think of massive guys that can blow up defencmen with monster hits and drive the net with two defenders hanging on him . I’d say Mags is more of a “interior “ player or can play a gritty game.

Honest question as a Devils fan that watches the Flames when I can . Would you guys think the Flames prioritize Johnny over Tkachuk ? I’m don’t mean flames fans , rather the Flames management . Any indication on who they value more ?
And what do most flames fans think ? Johnny my more important to the team than Tkachuk ? Both are amazing players . I just think Johnny is more valuable and can play an effective game for a longer period of time . I’d think he would be the better long term investment . Tkachuk’s play style typically doesn’t have as long as a shelf life .

Johnny is the #1 priority. In my mind he is a generational player and the best is yet to come from him. You are right. His size and stature and playing style will allow for a long career (think M. St. Louis).

Tkachuk is a power forward and I think we will see no less than what his father produced (1,065 points in 1,201 games). Matthew is still maturing and still filling out I think. He's the same height as his Dad, but his playing weight is 30 lbs. lighter. At 24 he is still learning to play the game the right way and so I also think the best is yet to come from him.

I think Johnny will last as a Flame much longer than Matthew.

There could be something there I think. I like the Devils as a trading partner. I think they could use a top winger and a goalie with upside. Those are our 2 organizational strengths. How far has Ty Smith's stock fallen? I haven't watched him a ton this year.

As the roster stands right now it's Gaudreau by miles. He drives the offense and is the only true "something from nothing" player on our roster. We have lots of toughness presently.

The crazy thing is we could go from arguably the toughest team in the league this season to it being a weakness really quick. Lucic is a trade possibility, Zadorov is a UFA and Gudbransson is a UFA. If you lose all of those guys Tkachuk becomes more essential.

Brady signed a 7 year $57.5 million dollar contract. What are you going on about?

I don't think you understood my post. I was taking about Matthew's 3 year bridge and his comments on Brady's contract negotiations.

Monahan or Lucic are the logical guys to try to move but in any trade, I believe the team trading for them will want to send a contract back so how much can the Flames save space? Hard to predict. Habs Have Petry to move as well and not sure we will be able to for futures only.

Wondering what the Flames would offer if we did a Weber/Monahan swap? Flames save the cap space they need but have to put Weber on LTIR before the season starts cause they use all their cap space on Gaudreau and Tkachuk.

The other option if the Flames don't want a contract back is to offer a future for the other team to buy Monahan out.

Gaudreau is heading into age 29+ years on his next contract. Tkachuk is age 24/25+ with his Dec birthdate.

Pretty sure they value both and need both of them. But if forced to pick one, they pick Tkachuk

If the Flames are thinking about moving Matthew Tkatchuk, I think Fitz will be very interested and we have the ammo to make it happen.

Our 1st round pick would be in play, we have a couple of cost controlled youngsters in Sharangovich, Holtz or Smith for instance and we can take on his cap hit without having to ship a heavy contract the other way.

If we can find a way to get Stolarz as well, Fitz would be killing two birds with one stone.

Flames are contenders, why would they consider moving him for futures? Unless Hischier or Hughes is on the table its a non-starter

For starters, if Gaudreau leaves for free, I don’t see Matthew Tkatchuk committing long term with the Flames and signing his one year QO would push him to free agency, which is something the Flames should avoid at all cost.

The Flames are contenders this year, I’m with you on that but if Johnny decides to bolt for free, it can change real quick. Moving Lucic or Monahan won’t be as easy as some are making it to be, so it should be a very interesting summer for Flames fans.

All I know is their contracts will be a lot more than they would have been in September, and they're getting more expensive by the day/game/shift.

A while ago I thought it would be impossible to sign all 4, but Mangiapane has slowed down a fair bit, which makes bringing them all back possible, if they all want to be back. The Flames will need to trade or buy out Monahan to make it happen. And the year after Lucic comes off the books which will be added cap relief.

I think Gaudreau will get 10M (and buyers remorse at that cap hit sooner than later) from a team other than Calgary, which will free up the cap space for everyone else. I expect Tkachuk to want a big payday too. His family has a lengthy history of holding out for the biggest paycheck possible. I can't see Matthew being any different than his dad or Brady in that regard.
