Surprise surprise. Nylander gets the first goal of the season for the marlies. Who would've guessed.

Should have scored 9 goals1g with 9 shots for the night. Great showing by William.
Should have scored 9 goals
or you know u could watch the game and see his dominance?9 shots, puck hog who can't finish

Wonder what that means. Is he saying they're comparable, or is he saying Larkin has something Nylander doesn't? Either way, awkward.
(Larkin) tonight obviously played with two good players in (Henrik) Zetterberg and (Justin) Abdelkader . . . those are nice guys to play with if you’re a kid.
The second part makes it sound like he's saying he doesn't want Nylander playing with the current Leafs' players (yet).

Awkward? You don't even know what he means. I don't even know what he means.

A goal and assist with 9 shots, nice.
With the comparison thing, does anyone think that could be Babs doubting his decision to send Willie down with how well Larkin played, given that Larkin himself would be in the A if Babcock was still in Detroit?

This was my take, but the world was not ready to hear it.Reading the full convo I think it was more from the perspective of "this is why Larkin is NHL ready, Nylander still needs to work on A, B, and C before he can move up. Larkin would have definitely made my roster if I was still coaching the wings". That kind of comparison.......
Babcock said he took the leafs job because he has final say on his roster. So mgmt sending him down against babcocks wishes seems unlikely, and Babcock himself has said Nylander isn't ready and still has a lot to work on. He's quoted in Toronto papers saying this, not sure why this myth is persisting.......

That's what I took away from that as well. Being surrounded by the experienced star vets in Zetterberg and soon Datsyuk is a better situation for a high end prospect to break into than a dumpster fire Toronto roster (1 GF, 7 GA through the first 2 games)
I just found this.

Larkin is 19. Nylander is 19. Larkin was selected 15th overall in the 2014 draft, seven slots after Nylander, who went eighth overall. Larkin played all of six AHL playoff dates last season after deciding to forego his three remaining years of eligibility at the University of Michigan. Nylander, after playing pro in Sweden, played 37 games in the AHL last season.
Someone asked Babcock after Friday’s game if Larkin is a rookie people should be talking about.
“I sure think so,†the Maple Leafs coach said. “I asked our guys after (the game) if you compare him to Nylander, because we sent our kids down. (Larkin) tonight obviously played with two good players in (Henrik) Zetterberg and (Justin) Abdelkader . . . those are nice guys to play with if you’re a kid.â€
You’ll notice the coach brought up Nylander’s name unprompted. And you could read between the lines and infer that the fear in Toronto, at least in some minds, is that Nylander wouldn’t have the luxury of Zetterberg’s leadership.
