Worth mentioning, he had 11 points in the final 13 games iirc, and that was playing with players of much lesser ability that himself. Playing with Matthews will really put him in a position to succeed.

Even better, it looks like it was 11 points in the final 12 games. And yeah, he played mostly with Parenteau and Hyman, and a little with Greening. Would not be too surprising to see him be a regular 70+ point player in his prime playing with the likes of Matthews.

Lost in the hype of Laine and Matthews has been William Nylander who has quietly put up 4 points in his first 3 games and has looked very dangerous in every game.

Still makes rookie mistakes as he's still a rookie, but his hustle and back-checking has been much improved and consistent this year over his call-up towards the end of last season.

Very soft hands, good vision, speed, and a heavy wrister.

He's the best player (not prospect) of the three right now.

To be honest, this changes period to period. I think most Leafs fans would say Marner has been the best overall.
Yeah, Matthews, Marner and Nylander have all been great so far, hard to pick a clear #1 out of those 3 in terms of current ability. Long term, I think it'll be Matthews > Marner > Nylander, but I think they'll all be stars.

Nylander now has 15 points in his last 15 games. Pretty good for someone who hasn't even crossed the 30 game mark in their NHL career.

He's really starting to develop chemistry with Matthews. That breakaway pass in OT last night was a thing of beauty. He's looking better along the boards this year (not surprisingly) and playing a stronger 2way game thus far.

I really like how Nylander and Matthews have meshed. They read the game the same way.

The thing I love about both is that:
1. Their passes are always on the tape
2. They dont fumble recieving hard passes.
3. Two is important since they both make hard passes.

As such, they dont need to create a lot of opportunities a game to score. On just 1 or 2 chances they can create a goal because they dont muck up plays moving forward

He's so awesome. Matthews, Nylander, and Marner all together as a core make any top 9 deadly. Amazing how well these young guys (and Laine while we're at it) are performing at the very beginning of their NHL careers. They make rookie mistakes but they all show superstar level skill already IMO. Will be interesting to see which ones (If any, with a crop like this it's not inconceivable) hit a rookie wall/and when it happens (If it does).

Also, Nylander's motor is waaaaaay higher than before, definitely improved on that aspect of his game

He is going be good and already is. So far I say he is 3rd. Matthews, Laine, Nylander, Carlo but its early. They are developing some chemistry so far which is going to be long term. Maybe they should try and get his brother from Buffalo, what a line that would be.

Considering the market he plays in it's kind of hilarious how little hype he's gotten since the lottery.

I love it. It's allowing him to quietly go about his business. Everyone/media is obviously focused on Matthews and nobody is really bugging Nylander much and he is playing unreal

I'm having a hard time thinking of a comparable player to him stylistically

Offensively he reminds of Giroux at times but the edge and compete level really isn't on his level. Neither is his defensive game. Maybe Giroux lite. Granted playing with matthews seems to have sparked Nylander a little bit and his compete level has improved some.

He looks amazing. And he's got good chemistry with Matthews but at the end of the day I still see him centering his own line.

X - Matthews - Marner
JVR - Nylander - X
Komarov - Kadri - Brown
Martin - Hyman - Soshnikov

Nylander seems to have chemistry/a bromance with Kapanen, wonder if that might be a long term fit on Nylander's RW if Kapanen keeps up the consistent AHL production enough to get him on the radar again as a real top 6 prospect

Just because Kapanen didnt score at Nylander's level doesnt mean he was never NOT a top six prospect.

The kid JUST turned 20 this offseason! He'd still be in the OHL if he was Canadian...

I wish Sens had Nylander. Such a beauty.

Hed of been a great fit on the Sens, had they not done the Ryan trade they would of had a good chance at drafting him.
