C/W Marat Khusnutdinov (2020, 37th, MIN)

Well, I don't remember Kaprizov was earning his spot in the camp. He was basically a starter from the start.
If he didn't look good enough, he would not have been on the team. A player like Kaprizov is not by any means normal, however. Very, very few players start out their NHL careers like him.

He is a great player to watch and I think that Minny will be set at center for a very long time with him and Rossi.

I think Rossi will make the team this year and next year of the year following will be time for Marat.

Definitely passes the eye test, he looks fast out there and is also creating a lot of chances. Min got a good one here

Playing on SKA’s top line today
He's played between 17 and 19 minutes all season long so far. It's been repeated ad nauseum "top line" means nothing in the KHL, nobody gives a crap how the coach fills the lineup sheet. For example, Ak Bars are penciling in their 4th line as a 1st all season long.

If anything, Khusnutdinov's linemates got worse after line reshuffling but since it doesn't affect his TOI that shouldn't matter much.

This. And as I pointed out talent wise SKA does not have top line by KHL standards. They rather have two 2nd lines and a very good 3rd line. And the 4th is often filled or influxed with younglings. Their both "2nd lines" are vets with respective talent or young guys like Khusnutdinov who are not quite there to be called regular 1st line KHLers, but are of course talented enough to become such in the (near) future. Khusnutdinov is in his first year as a KHL regular. It is a pretty good curve for him to preform like that and get those minutes in the first year. PPG Marchenko at 21 is a good measuring stick for his development curve.

His linemates will figure out how he plays, and learn to trust him. Main thing is to keep your stick on the ice ready to shoot, find a scoring area, and stay alert. Marat will demand a lot of attention from defenders if he keeps doing things like that, leaving others open.

Indeed. Svechkov, Chibrikov and Michkov were all on the ice today. Some 19 year old had to sit this out.
How did they end up with that many good young players? Also I think it’s awesome that they are allowing them to play and giving them ice time

First of all They aren't a traditional hockey hotbed. So like 95% of young talent they ever got was from everywhere else in Russia. Their own hockey school has yet to produce any significant numer of notable prospects(Barabanov might be the only one coming to mind). Unlike many people in Russia who like to rage away about it I don't see it as a problem though. It's not like they are luring the kids with false propmises. So far what I see is the kids get what they are promised and as long as it is those kids or their parents' decision, there is nothing wrong with it. So on one hand SKA is not new to seeking young talent around the country, on the other they have recently built and expanded their facilities, they have two MHL teams instead of one, so they do have a lot to offer to those kids. Not to forget the money. They are one of the rich teams which can make financial offers not easy to refuse. And the final factor is that they very clearly follow the policy of becoming a base camp for the national teams. With Rotenberg Jr. being both their and russian hockey federation(FHR) chief it all falls into the scheme.

On a Russia wide scale it can be described as follows. The wealthy powerhouses of the league mostly have an own hochey school, develop their own young talent and are able to keep it(or in other words keep any other team from luring those players). There are though teams with good hcokey schools who keep producing young talent, but are unable to hold on to those players because at some point some of those powerhouses will make an enticing offer. There are also some good hockey schools for kids without a KHL team affiliation. Their top products also get lured by some rich KHL team. All rich teams do it. SKA has just made it a part of their identity by now. If you are a young hockey player, or one's parent you get an offer to move to St.Petersburg which is one of the best places to live in Russia except for the weather:laugh:, you are offered a big contract(Michkov's one stands out, because he is that special too, but it still an indication), you see all those top notch facilities and staff, what will you do?

That’s 7 points in 10 games now. Assuming he plays 40ish games this year, that 28 point pace would rank very highly among u20 players all time.

For fun, some of the best 19 year old seasons in the KHL from some notable names:

Kaprizov: 42 points in 49 games
Kuznetsov: 41 points in 49 games
Buchnevich: 40 points in 48 games
Kravtsov: 21 points in 50 games
Panarin: 21 points in 40 games
Tarasenko: 19 points in 42 games
Yakupov: 18 points in 22 games
Marchenko: 16 points in 31 games
Chinakhov: 17 points in 32 games

He seems to be developing more quickly than Amirov and Chinakhov from his draft (pretty sure Chinakhov was a '19 draft eligible player).
