C/W Marat Khusnutdinov (2020, 37th, MIN)

For fun, some of the best 19 year old seasons in the KHL from some notable names:

Kaprizov: 42 points in 49 games
Kuznetsov: 41 points in 49 games
Buchnevich: 40 points in 48 games
Kravtsov: 21 points in 50 games
Panarin: 21 points in 40 games
Tarasenko: 19 points in 42 games
Yakupov: 18 points in 22 games
Marchenko: 16 points in 31 games
Chinakhov: 17 points in 32 games

He seems to be developing more quickly than Amirov and Chinakhov from his draft (pretty sure Chinakhov was a '19 draft eligible player).
Vesalainen... 17 points in 31 games at 19 in the KHL.

His offensive production is certainly better than expected and he certainly has a more important role on the team this year than anyone could have guessed. Having said that, it has all been on the wing. At some point you have to question isn't it just a better position for him. I guess preparation games for WJC will partially answer that.

He could certainly end up a winger given his stature, but I don’t see that being the end result. The Wild still view him as a center long term and his game is driven by skating and puck possession, which lends itself to the center ice position. He’s also excellent defensively with his reads, arguably his most impressive trait

Marat was bumped from his line as Gusev came into the team tonight. He played on another line than he usually plays, which isn't all that surprising given Gusev's history at SKA. That's not all that bad, since Bragin still played Khusnutdinov's line quite a bit and even into the third when it was a 3-3 game, and seems to trust him in all situations. What's worst is that he seems to have lost his spot on the powerplay. Might just be a temporary thing though.

I think his contract is done at the end of this season. If he doesn't re-sign with SKA then he could be in the NHL as early as next year. Personally, I wouldn't mind if he spent next season in the KHL also, but as a Wild fan I sure don't want him to sign for longer than that.

Gusev singlehandedly turned their PP into a weapon. Khusnutdinov will get a few more like that.

I'm guessing Burdasov takes that role once he's back. But if Khusnutdinov can somehow force his way onto that first unit (which he looks good on, especially zone entries and neutral zone carries), he should rack up the points.

Scary to think that he was one of the youngest players eligible in 2020. This guys is going to be legit

My favorite Russian talent (as a finn). Why? I felt like he reminded me of Saku Koivu a bit when I saw him at the WJC´s. Love his skating and work ethic. Even if a lot of people, especially Russians, bashed him quite hard back then.

Perhaps he would have it easier as a winger in the beginning of his NHL career, but as a longer project? I think do think he has strengths that will make him a good two way center.
In some ways he doesn't t seem that spectacular besides good skating and stamina, but at the same time I do see him becoming a good top6-top9 center. Have a feeling he will become a coaches dream and a valuable player for his organization without getting the biggest headlines.
Last but not least, he's lucky that he got chosen by a franchise like Wild. He's the type of player I can see having an easier time in organizations like Wild, Bruins, perhaps even the Isles etc. Because even if I recognize his talent and like his game, I´m not convinced that he's a success in every environment.
