Zegras is really good and his team won gold but I don’t even think he was the best pure forward. Stutzele was most impressive, never-mind he had no help having to carry a relatively weak and short handed squat and only 18. This is suppose to be a D+2 19 year old’s tourny

So does he make the Anaheim team on opening night?

His GMBM said, "He's got to help lead that team and get them into the finals. That's why I sent him there." Welp, he did better than that, so unless he comes back and is complete ass at camp/practice I would guess he sees his 6 games (or whatever the new minimum is) at a minimum. If BU was playing, the story might be different.

He's not going to be Bergeron or anything, but Zegras is not a floater and he has a very good defensive stick.

I completely agree.

Zegras made a lot of really key defensive plays in the medal rounds. He's not a floater, but I can understand why some people think he's more of an E-W player who makes some riskier plays that might sometimes get the coach a little upset. Thats definitely his game, but he puts in the effort in all zones, and will do what's needed to in the key moments in any zone.

I think this is why he's a center. There's simply more value to keeping your players at center, and I don't see why he doesn't project at center. I hope the Ducks keep him at center and don't try to move him to wing because it's the easiest path to him having a big offensive impact in the NHL.

There definitely is not a logjam at center that prevents him from playing there. Even the current slotted 2C/3C in Henrique and Steel have both spent time on the wing at the NHL level. The team absolutely has the flexibility to play him wherever.

Isn't there a Stutzle thread somewhere on this site to gush about Stutzle?

I am a fan of both and Zegras deserved MVP as he led his talented team to gold but was saying he wasn’t the most noticeable forward in this tournament even if Germany went out in the quarters. He is a lot better than Turcote like I knew in the 2019 draft when LA and other teams passed him.

In everything I've seen it comes off positive, though--supremely confident in himself but still respectful to the opponent. It's a good cocky.
Yeah true, I mean, I didn't really have much of a problem with what he said before the game. He said "I think we're gonna catch them by surprise" it's not like he said, "we're gonna spank them and make them cry for their mommies before we bury em under the arena"

He's cocky, but not an overt a-hole about it.

Plus, he was right re: testing them 5v5, so just file it under mark messier!

Casey Mittelstad out of the USNTD program had a similar tournament for team USA 3 or 4 years ago getting penciled in to Buff lineup by everyone

Casey Mittelstadt didn't come out of the NTDP.

Mittelstadt was excellent in that tournament but his performance wasn't even close to Zegras this year.

Mittelstadt has never had Zegras's hockey IQ or skills.

Remember the opening game against Russia? Z scored late to get within one and gave Russians the stare down. The USA ended up losing that one and many laughed that stare down was silly because they lost. Now after his pregame comments many said that so what Canada has not been tested? Well, you all got the Z treatment

Did Zegras steal your girlfriend or something?

Literally everything you post here is about other players (Stutzle, Mittlestadt) with the goal of trying to downplay Zegras.

This is a Zegras thread btw. If you want to make needless comparisons maybe you can create a new thread?
