I'm going to start by saying I think Zegras is going to be a helluva player.

I am curious though as I havent heard this comparison but watching him today with the way he skates and handles the puck he kind of reminds me of Robbie Schremp.

I think he is more engaged and driven then Robbie was with more big game heroics but that was the player that popped into my head when seeing him today.

Just curious if other people saw that too.

This guy is amazing. Like a combination of Eichel and Getzlaf.
Smaller body though but he's got some evasiveness. He is arguably also a bit more passive away from the puck but has time to fix it, if it even needs to be fixed. He seem to activate when he needs to.

Only connection or comparison I see between those two players is being able to do cool stickhandling tricks in warmups

Seriously that is a really bad comparison. Maybe you were really thinking of comparing Schremp with Kaliyev?

Zegras had an outstanding tournament. Star caliber performance throughout. Showed up in the Gold Medal Game when it mattered. Tons of swagger, and backed up his talk.

Zegras has been my underrated favorite of the 2001 NTDP age group since the U17 year. He's not so underrated right now and I think some of the hype might have gotten a little unrealistic, but the guy has been fantastic. I think he's going to have an excellent NHL career. His playmaking/skill/skating/hockey sense is top notch. He'll be a difference maker in the NHL.

Without their strength...

Zegras spectacular ability comes from his subtleness and fluidity with the puck. He sees stuff others havent caught onto yet. Reminds me of Panarin/Kane.

Eichel and Getz are more imposing players who use their big frames to shield and dominate.

If you are going to be cocky, you better be good. He is. He has star written all over him.

This is the dumbest thing I’ve read in this thread. Congrats!

I was more talking London Knights Robbie not AHL/NHL Robbie. He was quick on his edges and elusive in a similar way to Zegras with great puck skills but pure speed could be a question mark.

Its easy to look back on Schremp and say he wasn't that good but coming out of Juniors he was widely considered one of the most exciting NHL prospects. His foot speed was just a big issue as he couldn't rely on his elusivness there and didn't have the work ethic to fix it.

Just because a player is comparable in style doesn't mean he can't also be better which I believe Zegras is.

Just my two cents.

He does play pretty similar to Panarin

Those guys are big power centres, Zegras is 6’ 170 lbs. IMO he’s more like a midway point between Patrick Kane and Barzal, though not quite as good a skater as either (Zegras is a good skater, but Kane/Barzal are both elite).

Very, very talented player, I definitely think he has the potential to be a star. Not at all a power C though, he’s a high skill finesse player through-and-through.

I've been a huge Zegras homer for a long time, but that was a dominant performance and well-deserved MVP. Best tournament by a Team USA forward in my 16+ years following the WJCs.

Everyone knows about his offensive skills, but I want to call out his 200-foot game. He's not going to be Bergeron or anything, but Zegras is not a floater and he has a very good defensive stick. He's been extremely hyped for many years, but I love how he keeps working on his game and improving. Yes, he's a confident kid with a lot of swagger, but he puts in the work, too. Put on a bunch of muscle during 2020, improved his shot strength quite a bit, and found more consistent effort in all areas of the game. There's no reason to think he won't continue to work as hard as he can to be an elite NHLer.
