There in the same tier. I'd probably lean Keller, but I don't think the divide is sizable. Chychrun already has shown he looks quite capable as a top 4 defender at the NHL level. His production at ES was quite good. I did it quite quickly, I'm going to edit the original post, because I also forgot to even list Puljujarvi.

I'm a big fan of Chychrun, but I really like what Keller did in his +1 year and like his upside better.

Chychrun vs McAvoy is close for me too.

So is Steel in the AHL or NHL next year?

Wondering as a Vegas fan to see if Senchyshyn is the 1C next year.
Its NHL or CHL, he can't play in the AHL next year as he was drafted outside of the CHL (so therefore can't play in the AHL till his 20 year old season).

I'm pretty sure you mean Shipachyov. He will most likely be you number 1 center. Not sure what Steel has to do with this as a Ducks property, and I don't think you mean Zach Senyshyn who is a winger and Bruins property.

It's either NHL or CHL unfortunately, even though I think the AHL would suit his development more if he doesn't grab a roster spot out of training camp.

He's got a wide open 3C spot for him if he impresses in training camp, but it's more likely that he heads back to Regina.

I think he mean A player on Regina that they drafted in the 2nd round I believe that's a Center. It's Zeschyn or something along the lines of that.

I have been drinking a small bit and get that damn Bruins prospect mixed up with Jake Leschyshyn.

Similar last names and generic first names haha!

I'm just wondering if Leschyshyn ends up as the 1C / team captain of Regina next year.

Steel has got to have pretty good odds of making the Ducks right? He's in that situation where he might not be good enough for the NHL, but wayyy too good for the CHL i.e.Marner.

I have been calling for a breakout year for Jake, and if Steel is back and Jake is relegated to 2C, he may not put up the numbers I want him too.

As a Ducks fan I am not counting on Steel to play for us next year. A couple of games max, I belive. I just don`t believe he`s ready yet and even if he makes it, he will not get a lot of ice time all year long, which I believe is not in our managements interest.

I just don`t believe he makes it next year, but I am not a prefessional so

He will definitely be back in the WHL. IMO there is no chance he makes the Ducks. I am a massive fan of him but he is just not ready. He needs to head back to junior and have a long season as the host team of Memorial Cup and be a main guy on the WJC team.

Based on what? He looks ready to me.

The real question with Steel is whether there is a scoring line spot available to him on the Ducks roster.

Yeah, but there are also two more reasons for Anaheim to wait on Steel at least another season:

- contractually, a team with an internal budget may want to wait one more year before they start paying a top prospect

- Randy Carlyle's centers are usually uber-responsible defensively. He probably would not play Steel much as a 19-year-old rookie, so there is no point keeping him around.

I think he will make the team next year. I don't see how another year in the WHL will help him. He is more ready than not, and he will be playing sheltered mins behind Getzlaf and Kesler. Couldn't be a better situation for what is looking to be a steal as the 30th pick in the 2016 draft.

I think he gets 9 games to show what he can do. If there's no question he can play at an NHL level he'll stay on the team, but no need at all to rush him, especially where he would go back to junior in a great situation for experience (will likely captain a mem cup team; WJCs).

He is definately not ready. I will alnost guarentee he wont make the Ducks next season. He needs to keep playing in junior and work on his strength. Going back to Regina will be perfect for him... They are losing alot of their top guys and we will be able to see him play in the WJC stage next season and itll be a big year to see how he does.

Unsure if you watched in the WHL finals this past season but when they lost their top guy Brooks for a few games mixed with playing a big physical team like Seattle, he wasnt very noticeable IMO. He needs to get stronger and have another big season next year. Again, i love the guy and im not trying to be negative what so ever but i just think he needs anothet season in junior

I don't think he is ready for the NHL. In development camps he doesn't stand out as much as someone of his skillset should, and i think much of that is because he isn't physically ready to handle to size/speed of the NHL. I think he will be a fantastic pro player, just not yet.

But....I am no pro and wouldn't be shocked if he proved me wrong.

The real question with Steel is whether there is a scoring line spot available to him on the Ducks roster.

If he impresses enough in training camp to grab a spot, I'd much rather have him on our 3rd line than Vermette who was an offensive black hole last year. Vermette, unless he turns it around, would be better suited on the 4th line.

He's got an open spot on a secondary scoring line, likely with Ritchie and Perry -- it just depends whether he grabs it or not. Two big guys with big shots -- not a horrible fit for Steel's vision and playmaking. It'd be more ideal if Perry could actually play like something more than a slow lump, but it's still not the worst thing that could happen to him in the slightest unless he gets in Carlyle's doghouse.

We do have an incentive to send him back to Regina, though. If his ELC slides one more year, we don't have to re-sign him until after Getzlaf and Perry's contracts come off the books. The WHL won't be ideal for his development but he still would head back to Regina as THE guy for that team -- a team that will be hosting the 100th Memorial Cup this next year.

He is a L shot so we could use that in our lineup but if he can`t keep up with the NHL pace and strenght just yet (which is a legit concern) then there is no point of holding him around. Steel isn`t flawles, there are things he can and should improve. Marner showed that even after an outstanding draft+1 year you can go back to CHL and improve.

Side note: I think from the draft Steels character has improved a lot. His attitude is like a pro player should have. And I like that a lot and it gives me confidence that he`ll gonna be ok. Just no need to rush him

Marner had a ridiculous draft season and went back (averaging 2 ppg). He was up for his draft +2 though.

I think Steel ends up in Regina again. Maybe he gets the 9 game sample then sent back and is asked to be a key player for the U-20's. Steel can still work on things such as gaining strength and adding to his 2-way game at the WHL level and will be a major player at multiple events (WJC and Memorial Cup). It's tough to break in on a team that is trying to win right now like the Ducks are. I don't know fully how he's been with the Ducks, but even on a bad team I found Carlyle didn't give youth much of a chance, most notably with Kadri.

Yeah that is what I am expecting - 9 game stretch as a maximum for Steel next year but he will be able to show himself in a couple of very important tournaments next year if he goes back to play for Pats.
We will see how Steel does in his draft+2 year in CHL next year, but yes Marner was absolutely killing it in his +1y and didn`t seem to lose anything even when he stayed another year.

Regarding Carlyle, idk, he gave Kase every opportunity last year. Even let Sorensen and Larsson start the year, so I am not worrying about him sticking to veterans just yet.

Except Marner was in the NHL in his d+2 year.

Given the ducks current roster the opportunity is there for him to make the team. I think he atleast starts the season in Anaheim

I watched the games, the Seattle goalie played great. Sam was still generating alot of scoring chances.

The big thing is Anaheim is likely going to be hurting down the middle to start the season, I don't know how long kesler is out but that leaves a very big hole down the middle.... I think obvious choice is Rakell goes back to the middle but I wouldn't be shocked if Steel takes the 3c spot for at least 9 games. Ultimately I think hell end up back at Regina tho, hell get to play in memorial cup, and should be a lock for Canadian jr teams so it would be great opportunities for him and his development.

What's up with Steel? Still scoring at respectable rate, but nowhere near like last year.
Hard to say. He lost most of his line mates and the team is completely new. Adam Brooks was the player he was destroying with last year, but he’s in the AHL now, and he’s playing with way younger players. The team definitely took a step down from last year. He’ll probably heat up later in the year as he glues with his teammates.
