How does he compare to his brother as far as playing style?

He seems a bit less athletic, maybe more of a finesse player I'd say. Better hands and vision IMO, but lacks the same explosiveness and compete level that makes Mikey so effective. Neither guys are tremendous shooters but I think Ryan might end up with the better shot.

Does anyone think he will still be there around pick 24/25?

I think he's a good option in the 20-30 range, but there seems to be a pretty big difference of opinion on him.

He can skate and he has some good tools. Wasn't super productive for a late birthdate, but could see him taking a big step in his +1 season. He should log some big minutes next year.

Kid looks good and has decent stats, what's wrong with him, why isn't he hyped as a first round pick anymore?

I'm a fan of his, but certainly understand the reasoning for him slipping a bit. He's been knocked for being a perimeter player who doesn't engage with the play enough. I think he's got first round skill and speed, and would take him in the 20's, but there are a number of players in that range you could justify over him.

From what I've seen, when he was used as #1C he put up something like 50 pts in 40 games and when his brother came back and he was used as a second line checking/PK guy he put up 20 in 28. Do you think his production could go way up if he grew in a more important role?

I know nothing about evaluating prospects, but I wonder whether the fact that Michael has been a bit underwhelming has played into it.

Bob has him at 22nd. He's still getting talked about as a first rounder.

He isn't the most engaged player and hasn't really produced at a high-end level. He's fine for the late first though, although, I probably wouldn't take him there.

I think he flies under the radar a bit with his brother on the team.

Ryan is just a ton more composed. I think he's in a similar ballpark as far as speed and offensive skills as Michael, but manages to do it without being obnoxious, for lack of a better word.

Michael reminds me of that kid in gym class that gives it his all but in reality is just as effective as the kid that picks his spots to be effective (Ryan).

I don't know too much about his role over the season, and would have to watch a few more of his games to be able to answer with any conviction. However, I do definitely think he's more likely to be successful by playing on an offensively focused line. I don't see him being the driver of his line though, and that's probably where the disengaged comments come from.

He has good size and very good skating ability, but to me, his lacking high-end playmaking ability or shooting ability to go along those tools that could make him a threat offensively at the NHL level. On top of that, from what I heard and limited viewing of his, he is lacking a bit in the competitiveness department. I feel like he is going to end up as a 3rd liner at the NHL level which will offer secondary scoring, but will be forced further into a defensive role because he doesn't have high enough offensive abilities to play an offensive role in the NHL and his speed&size will be valuable assets on the PK. And that's if he actually makes it to the NHL.

Btw, when you look at his stats don't forget to factor the age, he has good numbers, but nothing overly impressive.

I find him him quite high on Bob rankings, he is more of a early to mid 2nd rounder to me.

My opinion is that this player will disappoint immensely and whoever drafts him in the first round, perhaps even early in the second, will regret it.

Right, reasons. Main things are Michael's poor performance, play that's suitable for top 6 with questionable bottom 6 prospects but not enough talent to be top 6 in NHL, one of the oldest players of the draft with very mediocre production for his age, perimeter player, can't use his size etc.

Of course, it's possible he pans out in the end but I'd bet against it and wouldn't even need very good odds to do so.

Polarizing game. He has all the tools, very heady player too. But lacks intensity. Doesn't drive play when he's on the ice, seems to be more of a passenger. I'd hesitate to take him in the first round. Would be more than happy to take him in the 2nd.
