I think it's kulich for vic. Savoie plays his 9 games, hangs around for awhile plays WJC and another memorial cup run with a strong ice team. My prediction.
Savoie is both better and more ready than Kulich. Both to produce and be an all around player. And Kulich has a pro development option that Savoie doesn’t. I wouldn’t put money on your prediction if someone asks you to. It won’t be close.

Sorry if I missed this in the thread, any thoughts on where he fits best next yr if he does make the team, C or RW?

My bet would be on the wing to start. Give him time to acclimate to the NHL and learn the game.

Past next year? No idea. We have a lot of Centers, though.

I think the question with Savoie was, could you pencil him in the lineup in 23-24 the same way you could pencil Quinn into the 22-23 lineup. In Dec/Jan the majority opinion was no, and in Mar/April the majority opinion changed to yes. Not many of us soured on him as a legit blue chip prospect. I'm now confident that he can takes Vics spot and contribute, but I didn't feel that way 4 months ago.

He needs to earn a spot in the top 6 in camp. If not, back to junior

No more square pegs into round holes. We've done that enough over the past 15 years

I don’t necessarily disagree. There were a ton of growing pains with Quinn, Peterka, and Krebs last year and can’t afford to do it again with Savoie / Kulich if we hope to make the playoffs.

Kulich with another year in Rochester with a few call ups, but I believe Savoie will earn a top 9 spot in camp.

If Savoie only earns a 3rd line spot, he should be back to junior.

I'd rather have someone defensively sound in that role of 3rd line winger

I fully expect the Sabres to go with 3 scoring lines again next season. So, top 6 or bust for Savoie doesn't fit with that and it will be top 9 or bust, most likely.

The first domino to fall will be if Adams deals VO to open up that forward spot for Savoie & Kulich to compete for in camp.

I doubt that Adams and Granato view things that way.

They break him in on wing in place of Vic.
I think the fanbase will erupt in applause if they do trade VO. But, like many things this off season, I will believe it when I see it.

I don't mean to say I think Kulich is the better prospect, just what I'm expecting for Savoie next season. Kulich had a great year in the ahl and has the option of going up and down as needed throughout the year. Either way Savoie will get some games and an opportunity to show out.

And they're in slightly different situations, it's unlikely they'll want to rush Kulich, but I think he'll probably play a few games in the NHL next season. But they can also keep him in the AHL for the whole season.

Savoie is another matter, here it’s either the NHL, or juniors again. If Matt shows up at camp that he's ready for the NHL, I think they'll keep him in Buffalo, or maybe they just think he doesn't need another year in the WHL. Also, don't forget that Adams loves to see prospects develop within an organization where they can control everything.

Never watched the game but its interesting Winnipeg won and all 3 stars were Saskatoon players.

So if he doesn't beat out Thompson, Skinner, Quinn, Cozens, Peterks or Tuch but has a good camp he should be sent down and if he does beat one of those out then what because you don't want Savoie on the third line you gonna put one of them on the third line?

that sounds like you are putting a square peg into round hole because now you are putting players on the third or fourth line without even taking chemistry into it just to force Savoie into a top 6 role as a rookie and you are forcing a top 6 into a bottom 6 role. If he makes the team he makes the team then its up to the coach to decide where its best to play him to maximize his development.

That is a terrible take. Savoie will enter the league on 3rd line wing. He is a responsible winger anyways. Couldn't be worse than VO. Juniors is a waste for him and you can see it now that he is healthy. He will 100% be on the team.

Adams has talked about giving Savoie the "Wright treatment". So, I would not write Savoie's name in Sharpie as being on the roster all season in 2023-24.

I didn't care for the Savoie pick at the time and felt pretty justified with his slow 1st half. Great to see he's really impressed and is proving me wrong so far. Looking forward to see where he lands going forward.

well being scratched is still on the roster.
Shane Wright was sent back to junior this season.

He got 8 games in Seattle, 8 games in the AHL (and 7 playoff games to date), played for Team Canada at the WJCs, and played in 20 regular season and 4 playoff games in the OHL.

It's akin to Laval getting their teeth stomped out and they will always have someone from the home team in the three stars - same thing happens in Syracuse and Utica honestly. Of note, two of the three were the Blades overagers and the other was their starting goalie... it's acknowledgement for the season and "one last spin" in front of the home crowd. Don't read too much into it.
