Shane Wright was sent back to junior this season.

He got 8 games in Seattle, 8 games in the AHL (and 7 playoff games to date), played for Team Canada at the WJCs, and played in 20 regular season and 4 playoff games in the OHL.
It was also year 1 for him. I am expecting a similar thing to Quinn and JJ where he gets a few games and if he struggles he sits a few.

Adams has talked about giving Savoie the "Wright treatment". So, I would not write Savoie's name in Sharpie as being on the roster all season in 2023-24.
Does that mean he will fake a conditioning stint in Rochester? :naughty:

They do not need to fake anything.

So, lacking the option to send Wright, 18, to the AHL automatically, they seized upon a loophole allowing the onetime conditioning stint for any NHL player who is a healthy scratch in five consecutive games.

They just need to put him in the press box for 5 straight NHL games.

Has KA given any youngest a 9 game tryout?
I don't think so.
he is not that long a GM. there was covid. this year is different; Savoie wasn't ready last season, so there was no incentive. this year is the first year it would make sense to keep him up.

It's akin to Laval getting their teeth stomped out and they will always have someone from the home team in the three stars - same thing happens in Syracuse and Utica honestly. Of note, two of the three were the Blades overagers and the other was their starting goalie... it's acknowledgement for the season and "one last spin" in front of the home crowd. Don't read too much into it.
As you alluded to, It’s standard to give the three stars to the OAs in the last home game regardless of how the game went.

They do not need to fake anything.

I sure hope they don’t do the Shane Wright treatment. That was a disaster! Lol

I don’t necessarily disagree. There were a ton of growing pains with Quinn, Peterka, and Krebs last year and can’t afford to do it again with Savoie / Kulich if we hope to make the playoffs.

Kulich with another year in Rochester with a few call ups, but I believe Savoie will earn a top 9 spot in camp.
I don't think the forwards were really all that much of an issue last year. Lack of defensive depth killed this team more than anything else.

The defensive play of the forwards was a major issue.
Not anything below the norm for any other team in the league the reason a majority of the goals happened were due to pitiful net front presence from D-man who didn't want to sticklift or hit and turned the puck over and extended shifts in our zone. Most of the lack of defensive play happened with our top line(obviously none of them are leaving the team) anyway. Peterka was the only young forward who regularly struggled to do basic defensive plays while Power actually had more brain farts in turnovers than most which is understandable with the amount of ice time he had.

Eh seemed like once someone got a stick on the puck they were good as a unit getting the puck out. They just didn't apply pressure above the goal line. Even at pivotal times, they seemed fine as a group, to float in the high zone, allowing time for the point player and seams for the back door. No man's land.

Defensemen were also bad at times in front of the net and terrible behind the net but a lot of that was no center helping out or not being effective down low. The ideal scenario was a quick turnover and back up ice which is what made Sammy so valuable because he was our best defender at that but once the other team set up, we were in for a long shift.

Much of the Sabres problem in their own zone is tied to their forwards blowing the zone early, leaving people uncovered and the defense outmanned. Their biggest improvement to GA is going to be getting players to play on the right side of the puck.

I don't think so. Sure it was a thing but if you really start to look back at a lot of our goals this season it was simply a guy getting parked in front of the net and the D-man not doing the simple things to prevent a big/impossible scoring chance. You notice a lot of the problems when our chance to win significantly decreases without Samuelsson. Acting like most of our GA were simply odd-man rushes from lazy forwards is ridiculous.

I'm not sure we watched the same team. Giving up cross-seam passes because they have short-area odd-man situations since the forwards are already moving out of the zone before anyone has control of the puck, the lack of puck security at their own blueline, leaving people unattended is very much a thing and often the breakdown of the center or rotational winger to cover the space.

Here is a poster child moment for bad in-zone awareness by a forward leading to an uncovered man and a GA:

Cozens leaves his man and puck watches. That too is a chronic issue with many of their players - they get transfixed and forget that there can and will be players behind them.

To make this about the subject of the thread - Savoie at his level has shown a commitment to being in the right position and supporting his defensemen low. He uses his gifts - namely his burst - to get back up the ice instead of cheating the game and blowing the zone early. We'll see how that translates into NHL success.

Savoie is a better defensive player right now than Olofsson without even playing a minute in the NHL. Unless Buffalo brings in a 3rd line winger I can't see how Savoie doesn't make the team and Olofsson gets shipped out for draft picks.

And I don't see Adams bringing in top 9 players with the prospect depth Buffalo has.

We watched the same. It was this 100%. REALLY bad give aways, blind passes to empty ice where a centermen or winger should have been but was long gone.

Strong game but held without a point. He had a couple nice chances, helped Benson get one that was stopped and drew a penalty.
