I think I'm finally aboard the @GeorgeLeafer12 train of him leaving the NTDP. If he wants to be drafted in the first round, he should. He's not playing much. He's clearly the most out of favor player on the team. He plays the least. They are using U17 players in a regular role, and having him play 13F. I watched three of his recent games, and think I saw him on the ice for 3 total shifts. I may have missed a few, but he barely plays. They rotate in the 7th defensemen often. They rarely rotate in the 13F.

I don't know if its work-ethic, disciplinary, or something else. I don't think it's about his ability. Something is off. I don't know what, but this situation doesn't make sense to me.

work ethic it is not.

Dude is one of the most hard working young hockey players ever
he lives and breaths hockey, he basically lives inside a hockey arena.

must be something else, i blame it on the coaching, it has gone down after the new staff arrived.

I don't know what's up with his ice time but he has zero confidence this year, which is a recipe for disaster since his primary flaw coming into the NTDP was his lack of assertiveness. He'll be drafted but his stock is in a free fall.

Hopefully he can figure it out with some more time in the USHL, I had him pegged with one of Arizona’s late firsts but now he probably won’t go until the 2nd or 3rd.

Would really suck for Notre Dame if he went to Portland. That would be two great recruits in a row signing in the CHL with Pastujov being the first
And lost McGroarty to UM and would not be surprised if the prize of them all, Cooley, heads elsewhere like Michigan, too.

He's officially on the Sioux Falls roster. NTDP has removed him from their roster as well. Sioux Falls is terrible so he should see a lot more ice time than he was getting at the program. It's extremely rare for a player to leave the program mid-season. There should be no shine on Fleming as a prospect until he proves otherwise. He had a lot of promise and had a strong start to his NTDP career, but he's been regressing for awhile and his U18 season has been a disaster.

Yeah, leaving mid-year is usually a red flag, and could lead to him getting trashed by people within USNTDP/USA Hockey which is a massive network. Area scouts are absolutely doing massive background on what the hell went down here.

Fleming obviously needs to prove himself with Sioux Falls, but in terms of the optics, this should reflect far worse on NTDP than Maddox. Dude is over the top good kid and hard worker. Scouts should not be fooled on this one.

Why should this reflect poorly on the NTDP? If he goes on to blow up with Sioux Falls, sure, it would be a bad look for the NTDP to have underutilized him. But the NTDP agreed to release him from his NTDP contract mid-season to pursue a new opportunity. That's pretty rare and definitely not something that reflects poorly on the program.

NTDP ran him out of town, likely an intentional outcome…which is why they agreed to release him. I don’t give NTDP credit for releasing him when they created the situation. Aside from being consistently buried as 13th forward (behind call-ups), he served the bench minor penalties (plus a few majors) and sat on the bench while the team runs up the score. 3-4 shifts in a 9-1 game is punishment, not a good recipe for development.

That doesn't mean they ran him out of town. It means he was utilized as a bottom forward, which means less ice time, serving penalties, etc. He was clearly not in favor with the coaching staff but it's not like the NTDP had some vendetta against him. I don't blame Fleming for wanting a fresh start but there's no evidence that the NTDP had intended to run him out of town. NTDP contracts are one year at a time. If they wanted Fleming gone, they wouldn't have renewed his contract a few months ago.

If this is purely a form decision, I think they need to be blamed. If it’s something else, it may be Fleming’s fault. We will probably never know.
