Not exactly.

Byfield: 43 points in 110 games=.39PPG
Lafreniere: 96 points in 227 games=.42PPG
Personally when I watch the game QB still looks raw where you see flashes of him putting it together and becoming a beast. By the time he’s 23/24 I think he’ll put it all together.

When I watch lafreniere he looks no better than he did as an 18 year old.

Just saying, Byfield has 10 in 11 this season, Stützle has 11 in 10, yet Stützle is by far the best from the 2020 draft?

Guve it time, this big boy will show Stützle who’s the best.
Stutzle has a 90 point season under his belt. He's proven that he can consistently put up points in the NHL. He has 145 more points than Byfield. It's not close.

Stützle was always going to hit first. That was part of our Kings board's debate about that pick, whether the earlier production on a cost-controlled deal was worth more than the patience required for Byfield to fill into his frame.

Byfield was always going to be the more valuable player in the end, the question was how long we would have to wait to see it. He still has Bambi legs. The difference in a years strength after losing 20+ pounds to an illness has allowed him to succeed in plays he was easily pushed off of last season. Terrific on the forecheck, fantastic puck protection with high end speed and creativity. Its just a matter of time. Stützle is an excellent player, but he doesn't offer the same dominant physical package.

Two years from now there likely won't be any debate at all, and that is no disrespect to Tim. A 6'5", 230lb guy with world class speed is the rarest type of player in the league.

There isn’t a Ranger fan alive who doesn’t wish that they could have a mulligan on the 2020 draft to draft Byfield over Lafreniere.

I think you are sadly mistaken, or joking. 9 games ago he was a bust, and now he was always going to be better?

Go, Byfiled, go, but make no mistake - there was doom and gloom for over two years running.

Thats only because ottawa fans treat the main board like its their team board.

Well said. You can find a Stutzel in every draft but QB type players don't come along as often.

Stutzle's getting twice the power play time on ice per game than Byfield right now. Kings fans are hopeful that Byfield gets bumped onto the top power play unit.

I may be biased, but I would bet most people see Byfield's trajectory being higher than Lafreniere's right now, and I think by the end of the season, we might say that Byfield might be closer to Stutzle than to Lafreniere. I did not think I'd be saying that right now, but Quinton has taken HUGE strides since last season.

Nobody can predict the future. Unfortunately many here think they can.

The constant involvement of (Sens) fans when Byfield was labeled as a bust was downright annoying. Everybody knew it would take a few seasons and possibly he would indeed become a bust. That was and still is the question.

A new draft ranking every week, give me a break. Some players arrive fast but but some do not.

Here there is a new conclusion every week.

No, there are people here who actually do know what they are talking about. They never said such things. But if you choose to listen to a bunch of stat watchers, folks with little first-hand knowledge or a small but vocal group Ottawa back-patters, that's fine with me.

Byfield was the clear and obvious choice at #2. Impatience is not in short-supply among hockey fans. He started making the "right" plays last year, but largely in one and done situations. He didn't have the strength for sustained plays and was noticeably weaker later in games. He was a skinny kid who lost an awful lot of weight he couldn't afford to lose, and it showed along the walls.

This year, the increase in strength is massive. Attacks are sustained, he is winning the vast majority of his one on ones. He is regularly beating two and three defenders at a time. The next step is to work on his own shot, which is the only aspect of his game that hasn't taken a major step up yet.

He was a bust only to those who either haven’t been watching hockey for very long, or to those who had some ulterior motive for wanting him to fail. As stated, he was always going to reach his potential after Stutzle.

Little early to say a “Byfield type player” doesn’t come very often.

As of right now Stutzle is a #1C with a 90pt season and Byfield is a guy with a career high 5G/22pts

There's no denying Stutzle is a top-tier talent. And Ottawa is fortunate to have him.

That said, I was hoping for the Kings to find a way to draft Byfield since I watched him more closely in his D-1 year. And Stutzle's all-star season didn't dissuade me.

I'm not going to quibble over which prospect is better or which one is "more rare". I'm happy with Byfield and Senators fans are (rightfully) happy with Stutzle

Patience is all that is required for Byfield. From the beginning all he needed was time and patience. He was always going to be good. Unfortunately the media hype made it seem like he should step in at 18 and dominate. The media created the over the top hype to sell clicks and then when it took time, people crapped on the poor kid. He will have the last laugh.

I don't even care to compare him to Stutzle at this point, he's his own player and helping a surefire playoff team by being the best forward.

It's his time to emerge and the folks that have been patiently waiting and cheering are gonna love it and those like @nbwingsfan who have been motherf***ing him since he was 17 are gonna keep poopooing him no matter what he does so just grab some popcorn and enjoy the ride.
